Sony Xperia Z Ultra Preview

When Sony debuted the Xperia Z Ultra in July (2013), it was the world's largest Full HD smartphone, representing one of the company's flagship products. Available in purple, white, or black without a two-year contract, the Z Ultra is an impressive machine. Half phone, half tablet. I think they're calling these "phablets".

The Z Ultra boasts a powerful 2.2 GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage (which can be expanded by 64GB more using a microSD card), and while it ships with Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean), it is firmware upgradeable to 4.4.2 (KitKat). Next we can talk about the absolutely huge (for a phone) 6.4-inch Full HD TRILUMINOUS touchscreen display. With a pair of CMOS image sensor camera (one rear, one front), you'll be able to record shiny, high resolution Full HD 1080p videos and then watch them in full rez right on your phone.

Oh, the the Z Ultra is even waterproof (up to 1 meter) and dust-resistant!

But let's get back to the primary (rear) camera. This Sony camera has an 8MP image sensor, HD video recording, High Dynamic Range (HDR) mode, autofocus, image stabilization, face detection, and Sweep Panorama. All important stuff. To share your videos and still images, the Z Ultra includes Bluetooth 4.0, DLNA certification, NFC, and Wi-Fi plus the ability to turn this phablet into its own mobile hotspot. From there you can use the full suite of Google and Sony apps to transfer, back up, and share your images and videos, all while having full access to tons of movie, TV, and music apps.
