Playback Screens & Menus

Please excuse the poor quality of these screen captures. The Cyber-shot WX80 kit does not include an AV output cable, therefore we had to photograph the display screen.

You access Playback mode with the Sony Cyber-shot WX80 by pressing the Playback button in the lower right corner of the camera's back panel. In Playback mode you'll see the battery charge, aspect ratio, resolution, and file number across the top of the screen. Instructions and the time and date the photo was shot are along the bottom of the screen.

Press the Disp button on the four-way button to see more data about the image, including the flash mode, white balance, ISO, EV, and aperture, along with a histogram, all of which will appear on the right side of the screen. Pressing Disp again will remove all data from the screen.

Sony provides a few options for viewing multiple photos at once with the WX80's Index feature.

Press the zoom ring to the left and you'll see a 4x4 grid of thumbnail images. Press it to the left again to change the grid to 5x5. Pressing the zoom ring to the left a third time will bring a calendar to the screen, where you can see each of the photos you shot on each date. Use the four-way button to highlight a thumbnail and press OK to bring the full image to the screen.

You can magnify any images you have stored in the camera using the WX80's Magnify function. With a single image on the screen, move the zoom ring to the right. You can pick from more than two dozen magnification stops up to 8.0x. Press the zoom ring back to the left to reduce the magnification. You can use the four-way button to adjust your view compared to the overall image, which is displayed in a thumbnail in the lower left corner of the screen. The small white box inside the thumbnail represents the portion of the larger image that you actually see on the screen.

When reviewing movies in the WX80's Playback mode, you'll see a limited amount of data about the video file displayed on the screen. Across the top, you'll see icons for the battery power remaining, the movie resolution, and the file number. Across the bottom, you'll see the date and time the video was shot, as well as instructions for playing the movie on the camera's LCD screen. Press the Disp button to remove all of the icons from the screen.

When you press the OK button to play the movie, you'll see a timing line appear on the bottom of the screen, indicating the current position in the overall video file.

Sony did not include a specific Playback mode menu with the WX80. You can access the playback options for this camera by pressing the Menu button while in Playback mode. When the popup menu appears along the left side of the screen, you'll then have access to some of the Playback features, although some of the menu options are repeated from the popup menu that appears in the shooting modes. The popup menu options in Playback mode are:

  • Easy
  • Send to Smartphone - Select on This Device, Select on Smartphone
  • Wi-Fi View on TV
