Sony DSC-RX1R Preview

If you've been considering purchasing Sony's fixed lens / full frame DSC-RX1, you may want to consider Sony's latest addition to the RX series. Dubbed the "RX1R", this new model forgoes an optical low-pass filter on the image sensor, which allegedly gives "Ultimate Resolution" (it helps if you say this in a God-like Wizard of Oz voice). PR spin aside, by removing this low-pass filter, Sony claims the RX1R affords greater fine detail, increased contrast, and a wider dynamic range.
Other than Tri-luminous Color HDMI output, the DSC-RX1R ports over everything from the RX1, including the 24.3-megapixel full-frame Sony Exmor CMOS image sensor, the f/2.0 35mm fixed lens, the BIONZ image prcoessor, a 3.0-inch Xtra Fine LCD screen, Full 1080p HD video, a pop-up flash unit, and a host of manual exposure options and automatic functions.
It should also be noted that the RX1R is not "replacing" the RX1; both units will be available simultaneously.
