Sony Alpha a6000 Preview

Sony has announced its latest Alpha-series ILC (Interchangeable Lens Camera) system, the α6000 (or a6000). The α6000 features a large 24.3-megapixel Exmor APS-C HD CMOS image sensor. FYI, this is the image sensor size most commonly found on entry-to-mid-level DSLRs. Other top tier features include the a large, tilting 3.0" LCD display and the super-fast BIONZ X image processing engine, which allows the α6000 to have 0.02-second release time lag, a 100-25600 ISO range, capture 11 fps Burst Shooting, and record Full HD 1080p at up to 60 fps.

The α6000 also boasts Fast Hybrid AF (AutoFocus), which combines 179 phase detection AF points and 25 contrast detection AF points to give users multiple AutoFocus modes (see below) in still image and HD video capture. There are 13 Picture Effects Modes for creatively adjusting photos. Intelligent Auto (iAuto) + Superior Auto will help beginners save time in adjusting the camera's many manual control settings. But then again, if you'd prefer to do it all yourself, there are 7 customizable buttons to quickly adjust your most frequented settings.

Finally, like most 2014 new models, the α6000 includes Wi-Fi and NFC (Near Field Communication) technologies
