Sharp Electronics Corporation enters the digital still camera market with two new multi- megapixel models featuring Sharp's proprietary CG Silicon Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) technology that provides an ultra-high performance LCD that consumes less power. When used as the viewfinder the 1.5-inch LCD screen delivers a crisp and true to color preview for proper framing of your photo.

Identical on the outside, these cameras are very compact and weigh less than one pound. The VE-CG40U employs a 4.2 megapixel CCD and the VE-CG30U has a 3.3 megapixel CCD. They feature an all-glass Canon 3X optical zoom with 3X digital zoom, USB interface, white balance control, image effects, and come with a removeable 16MB SD memory card, and AC power adapter. The VE-CG40U also records movie clips (motion JPEG) with sound up to 30 seconds in length.

Both cameras are also equipped with high-end features such as Program AE, Exposure Bracketing, Aperture and Shutter priority and full manual exposure modes as well as five Scene modes, gamma correction, adjustable ISO sensitivity, white balance options, exposure compensation and "after capture" image effects filters. Both the VE-CG30U and VE-CG40U also have an easy "Quick link" button for one-touch photo transfer from the camera to the PC. Users can simply connect the included USB cable to the camera and the computer, hit the button, and it's complete.
