Ricoh Imaging has announced the WG-5 GPS "adventure proof" (aka "tough" or "life proof") style point-and-shoot camera for on-the-go families and photographers who need a more extreme or durable camera.
Want to take photos underwater? The WG-5 shoots 16-megapixel still images and can survive depths down to 45 feet. Not only is underwater photography aided by six LED Macro Lights around the circumference of the lens barrel, but the 3.0-inch LCD display has an anti-reflective coating to make it easier to see your framing in water or bright daylight.
Want to record Full HD 1080/30p video while snowboarding? The WG-5 will work fine in temperatures as low as 14F / -10C and survive drops of up to 7 feet.
There's also an Interval Shooting mode, which can be set in advance to record video or still images, and run continuously for over 2hours. Digital Microscope serves as a nice macro-photograhpy option, and the 4x optical zoom lens (25mm widest angle, f/2.0 maximum aperture) gives you just enough reach to frame medium-distant subjects.
