Ricoh is a Japanese company known worldwide for its cameras and copiers. From its beginnings as Riken Kankoshi Co, Ltd. in the mid 1930s, Ricoh has earned a reputation for innovation. In 1950, company founder Kiyoshi Ichimura developed the world's first mass-produced twin-lens reflex camera, which led to later pioneering innovations, including a desktop copy machine and a fully digital fax machine.
In 1995, Ricoh introduced its first digital camera, the Ricoh DC-1. In keeping with Ricoh's spirit of innovation, the DC-1 also recorded video and sound, which was a completely unique feature at the time. Although Ricoh has, over the years, focused primarily on point-and-shoot cameras, their products have received praise from enthusiasts and professionals alike.
Three series comprise the current lineup of Ricoh cameras. Ricoh GX and GR Series digital cameras are aimed at professionals with an emphasis on performance, accuracy and include a fixed focal length model. The new CX series, which replaces the RX line, is targeted at a wider audience and includes features like large LCD screens, face detection, and powerful zoom lenses.
