Panasonic LUMIX DMC-ZS20 Preview

The Panasonic LUMIX DMC-ZS20 is one of two brand new ZS-series cameras announced today. It costs about $70 more than the ZS15, but has a larger 14.1 megapixel High Sensitivity MOS sensor, a longer 20x optical zoom lens, full 1080/60p HD video recording (the ZS15 only does 60i or 30p), built-in GPS for Geo-tagging and even map navigation, and two extra color choices.

Otherwise, both new ZS cameras are both compact and brimming with features. More advanced photographers will enjoy manual controls via the ZS20's 3.0-inch Smart Touchscreen as well as 10fps high speed burst shooting (at full resolution). Camera newbies will be delighted by all the Intelligent Auto modes, which is powered by Panasonic's Venus Engine and selects the best camera settings for any shooting conditions while utilizing a built-in Optical Image Stabilization to keep stills free of blur and video smooth.

If you like getting creative, why not try Panorama Mode or 3D Photo Mode or one of the many Creative Control filters like Miniature Effect, which makes large world scenes look like they are a part of a diorama; when applying Miniature Effect to video, the images play back at 10x normal speed for hilarious effect. There are also ways to apply stylized filters to images after the fact via Creative Retouch, or if your picture didn't come out as intended, try Auto Retouch to automatically fix various lighting problems.
