Features & Controls

Featured on the SP-800UZ is the massive 30x wide optical zoom lens with a 35mm equivalent of 28-840mm. When the camera is off the lens retracts into the body, keeping it rather small for the size of the lens. Its maximum aperture of F2.8-F5.6 allows for good low-light shooting. The sensor-shift image stabilization helps steady the camera when using the telephoto end of the zoom with the camera in your hands. To help protect the lens, Olympus has provided a lens cap that fits over the lens, but pops off if the camera is turned on, just in case you forget.

Super Macro: 0.39" - 4.72" (0.01m - 0.12m)

On top of the camera you will find Olympus's manual pop-up flash. This powerful compact flash operates in Auto, Red-Eye reduction and fill modes.

Framing and viewing your images is done on the extra-wide 3.0-inch, 230,000 dot LCD screen. This bright, vivid screen is easy to see in all lighting conditions thanks to its 5 levels of brightness.

Controls on Back: At the top is a dedicated Movie Record button. Directly above the 4-way controller you can see the playback button. The 4-way controller/scroll wheel has a unique design. Pressing it up changes the amount of info you see on the screen while shooting or viewing your images. Pressing down allows you to delete images in Playback mode. Pressing down or either direction in REC mode will take you to the quick menu. At the bottom you have the MENU button and the camera/menu guide button.

Well concealed under a flap, the I/O ports shown here include a multi-connector on top and an HDMI output on the bottom. The multi-connector allows you to connect to a computer or standard TV with the included cables. With the HDMI port, you can view your images and HD Videos on a HDTV, but you will need to purchase the optional HDMI cable.

Although the camera features 2GB of internal memory, it also accepts SD/SDHC memory cards. These cards range up to 32GB in storage and give you endless space for more shooting. The SP-800UZ is shown here with a spacious 16GB ADATA Class 6 SDHC card.

Approx. Storage Capacities:

Powering the SP-800UZ is a 3.7V, 925mAh rechargeable Li-Ion battery. Olympus claims that this battery is powerful enough to provide approx. 200 shots on a single charge. Also included is an external quick charger with foldout prongs. This allows you to take with you easily and also allows you to keep a spare battery charged and on hand at all times.
