Nokia Lumia Icon Preview

Nokia has released a new Verizon-compatible Windows smartphone for early 2014. The Nokia Lumia Icon is essentially a more compact version of last year's Lumia 1520... In terms of performance features, they are virtually identical. The only differences are cellular carrier (Verizon vs. AT&T) and this Icon has a smaller 5.0-inch Full HD touchscreen display (vs. 6.0-inches). However, since the two phones' displays are the same resolution, the Icon's has a much higher pixel density for more accurate color reproduction and overall sharpness.

Otherwise, much like the 1520, this Windows smartphone boasts a 2.2GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, a ginormous (technical term) 6.0-inch Full HD touchscreen display, 4G LTE capabilities, 16-32GB of internal storage, 7GB of free cloud storage, and you can even add an additional 64GB via microSD.

Next, let's talk camera. There are two, like most modern smartphones, but our only true concern is the main, or rear, camera. The 20MP BSI CMOS image sensor is capable of recording Full 1080p HD video (again, matching the display's resolution). It also features a high quality 26mm lens with an f/2.4 aperture, dual LED flash, a 10cm minimum focal range, 3 white balance modes, ISO 100-4000, and 5 photograph apps, such as panorama.

As a Windows phone, you will get tons of productivity features and exclusive apps like mobile Microsoft Office and Xbox Live Hub. You also get an FM Radio (who knew!), all sorts of wireless connectivity technologies (NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, and Wi-Fi), and compatibility with most third-party email services.
