Nikon DL24-85 Preview

Nikon has launched the new premium, compact DL Series for 2016, offering Powerful, Pocketable, DSLR quality optics. Those are the high benchmarks this new series hopes to hit. There are three new DL Series cameras to consider. Inside, performance features and specs are interchangeable, so the choice for every potential customer will come down to three different lenses and zoom ranges.

The DL24-85, so named for its 24-85mm equivalence, is the all-around camera. It's not the widest, nor the longest lens in the series, but this 3.6x NIKKOR optical zoom lens with an
f/1.8-2.8 maximum aperture will cover you in most shooting conditions allowing for superior low light performance with a touch of bokeh if that's your intention. All lenses in the DL Series include a fluorine coating to repel dirt, water and oil, while making cleaning easier.

Exclusive to the DL24-85 is Nikon's new Super Macro Mode (1:1), which offers a few different functions. Focus bracketing. Manual Priority AF (M/A). Peeking Indication. And the ability to set manual zoom to shoot at a 35mm equivalent magnification. There's also Dual Detect Optical VR (vibration reduction) to steady shots at longer focal ranges.

Outside of these features, the DL Series is quite similar, boasting a 20.8-megapixel (CX-format) 1-inch BSI CMOS image sensor, 20FPS continuous shooting, a high-speed hybrid autofocus (AF) system, 4K UHD video capability (3840x2160) at 30p, PSAM selectable exposure modes, built-in wireless connectivity for use with Nikon SnapBridge and Nikon Image Space, RAW image capture, and a menu system straight out of Nikon's DSLRs.
