Nikon DL18-50 Preview

Nikon has a new new premium, compact camera line for 2016, offering "Powerful, Pocketable, DSLR quality optics" The three-model DL Series has some high aspirations.

The DL18-50, so named for its 18mm-50mm equivalence, is aimed at landscape and architecture photographers, combining the widest angle lens in the series with Nikon's first use of Nano Crystal Coat technology -- to help reduce flare and ghosting -- in a compact camera. The DL18-50 model even includes perspective controls to help compensate for wide-angle image distortion. This f/1.8-2.8 max aperture lens should produce a nice bokeh and perform well in lower lighting conditions. It also features, like the other DL Series models, a fluorine lens coating to help repel dirt and grime (and making cleaning easier).

Outside of above, the DL Series is interchangeable, boasting a 20.8-megapixel (CX-format) 1-inch BSI CMOS image sensor, a high-speed hybrid autofocus (AF) system, 4K UHD video capability (3840x2160) at 30p, 20FPS continuous shooting, PSAM selectable exposure modes, wireless connectivity for use with Nikon SnapBridge & Nikon Image Space, RAW image capture, and a menu system based off of the one used in Nikon DSLRs.
