Bottom Line
Considering it has a jaw-dropping 83x optical zoom lens, the Nikon Coolpix P900 is an attention-grabbing ultra zoom camera. No camera currently on the market can match the P900's zoom range of 24-2000mm. Unfortunately, this model's image quality is very similar to what you'll find with other ultra-zoom cameras, with some softness and lack of fine detail, meaning its photos don't stack up against other cameras that have a $600 starting point. The Coolpix P900 performs a bit faster than its peers, which is nice. This is a good camera, but its overall image quality holds it back from being great. Read more in our Full Conclusion.
The Nikon Coolpix P900 is a new super-zoom camera offering a staggering 83x optical zoom (24-2000mm equivalent) that can be expanded to 166x with Nikon's digital Dynamic Fine Zoom feature. With zoom capabilities like this, you're going to need the Dual Detect Optical VR (Vibration Reduction) that offers the equivalent of a 5.0-stop increase in shutter speed for shake-free videos and sharp still images. The P900 also boasts a 16-megapixel CMOS image sensor capable of shooting 7fps still images and recording Full 1080p HD video with stereo sound. The video function can also create Time Lapses, and a "Zoom Microphone" feature boosts audio clarity when recording distant subjects.

The Coolpix P900 also includes built-in GPS and Nikon Snapbridge, which uses the camera's built-in Wi-Fi and/or NFC (Near Field Communication tech) to transfer images to a compatible smartphone or tablet, while allowing said smart-device to act as an external display and remotely control the camera. This camera also features a 3.0" Vari-angle LCD, a professional dial and button layout, and lots of Scene Modes, Filters, and Effects to stylize photos and videos.
