Bottom Line
This super zoom delivers good overall image quality and a fair number of useful features, but the auto focus can be slow and unreliable. This, in addition to slow processing in burst mode, make it ill-suited for fast action photography. The weak flash and lack of a flash shoe further hamper this camera's versatility. But, if you rarely use flash or photograph fast action, this super zoom could meet your needs. Read more in our Full Conclusion.

Nikon's newest P-series super-zoom (as of 2/2014), the Coolpix P600 boasts some serious specifications, like a 60x optical zoom. This unit covers a 24-1440mm 35mm-equivalent zoom range, with Lens Shift Vibration Reduction (VR) and a 16.1-megapixel backside illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor, "capable of capturing detailed photos and Full HD 1080/60i video, even in challenging lighting conditions". Composition, from any vantage point, is made easy thanks to a 3.0-inch Vari-angle LCD display and, once your high power zoom shots are captured, the built-in Wi-Fi allows users to send images to smartphones and tablets in order to share via the web.

Like many powerful zoom point-and-shoots, the P600 is shaped to resemble a DSLR, even going so far as to include full manual controls (P, S, A, M) and an electronic viewfinder. But don't worry if you're a beginner. The P600 has numerous Scene Modes to help your camera take the best photos in any lighting conditions; with little or no work from you, save framing the shot. Finally, this new Coolpix boasts an improved battery life that allows up to approximately 330 shots per charge.
