Nikon Coolpix 5900 Review
Playback Modes & Screens
The Playback screen displays the time and date of capture, the folder name and
filename. The icon in the middle on the left indicates that this image is marked for
Auto Transfer. The musical note icon indicates that a voice memo has been recorded.
On the bottom is the image quality/size and the image # / total # of
images on the SD card or internal memory.
Thumbnail index mode can display 4 or 9 images per page.
The image can be magnified from 1.2 - 10x in 0.2x steps, once enlarged you can
scroll around inside of it using the 4-way controller.
The Photo Trim option works in conjunction with playback zoom, allowing you to
crop out a smaller section of an image and create
a new image.
The Nikon D-Lighting option can help correct for dark images by raising the gamma levels.
Simply press the OK button and the adjusted image is shown and you are prompted to
save it as a new image. D-Lighting
is not without its drawbacks, it can increase the amount of noise in the image.
However, when printing at 4x6" size it is almost invisible.
Up to a 20-second voice memo can be recorded by pressing the shutter release
when viewing an image in fullscreen.
Playback menu has options for Print set (DPOF) printing information, automated slideshow,
image Delete, image Protect, Auto Transfer, Small pic and Copy.
The Small Picture option creates a smaller image for email or web
use, select from 640x480, 320x240 or 160x120 size.
QuickTime movies are played back in full screen mode,
playback starts by pressing the the 4-way controller's center button.
During playback, the 4-way controller's left and right buttons are used to select
the playback controls displayed at the top
of the LCD; pressing the center button performs the selected action. The bar at the bottom indicates the playback position with
the running time in seconds displayed on the right.
