Featured on the Kodak EasyShare M580 is an 8x optical Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon zoom lens with a 35mm equivalent of 28-224mm. When the camera is powered down, the lens retracts into the camera for protection.

On top of the camera you will find controls for the Power, Flash, Shooting mode and the Shutter Release. The mode button and shutter release can be easily mixed up or pushed accidentally while using the other.

Framing and viewing you images is accomplished with the camera's 3.0-inch, 230,000 dot LCD screen.


Controls on Back: On top you will find the Zoom lens controls, in playback they function as the magnify and index controls for inspecting stored images. Next you can see the Delete button for playback mode. The Menu button is for calling up and dismissing the onscreen menu system. Information about the camera settings can be viewed by pressing the Info button. To the right of the three buttons listed above, you can see the IR sensor, which allows the use of an optional remote control. The 4-way controller button is for navigating menus and selecting pictures. Inside you will find the OK button for changing the information on the LCD screen and accepting options in the menus. At the bottom are the Play and Kodak's famous Share buttons. The Share button allows for image transfer with just the push of a button.


Kodak's Input/Output ports allow you to connect a USB cable or A/V cable via the USB jack. There is also an HDMI port for connecting the camera to an HDTV via an optional HDMI port.

Along with the 64MB of internal memory, the M580 also accepts SD/SDHC memory cards that allow you to increase the camera's memory up to 32G.

Powering the M580 is a 3.7V, 740mAh rechargeable Li-Ion battery. Kodak does not include a battery charger, instead the camera charges through USB. An adapter has been included so you can charge the camera with any standard US outlet, no need for the computer.
