When you buy one of the new Kodak Easy Share-compatible cameras there will be a special insert included that mates it to the optional Easy Share Dock.
We have another page with screen shots of the
Kodak Picture Software to show you how it works.
The autofocus range is 1.6 ft. to infinity in normal mode and in close-up mode
it covers from 0.2 to 2.3 ft in wideangle and from 0.8 to 2.3 ft in telephoto.
The lever on the side turns the camera on and opens and closes the
The Kodak lens kit (part no. 157 4193) includes: Close-up lenses (+7, +10), 2x
Telephoto Lens, a Super Wide Angle Lens, and Lens Pen all packed in a large, black,
padded System Case. It is compatible with the DX3500, DX3600 and DX3900 cameras.
The optical viewfinder is large and bright with framing marks and autofocus
target but it has no dioptric
adjustment. The LED on the side indicates power is on and camera is ready to
capture. The color LCD is automatically turned on when you switch the camera into
macro mode to avoid parallax problems with the optical finder at close range.
The 1.5-inch color LCD can be used for preview, review and menu operations. The refresh rate when used as a live viewfinder is realtime (30fps) but it does get a little grainy in low light conditions and is dfficult to see in bright sunlight.
The left and right positions of the 4-way selector control the zoom lens when in Record mode.
Navigating the menus is simple, just use the 4-way selector to move up and down
through the selections and accept a setting by pressing the SELECT button. The record
and play menus are detailed on the next two pages of this review.
The monochrome data LCD lets you view all important camera setings at a glance without
having to turn the color LCD on. The Mode Dial has positions for Record, Play and Setup.
The FLASH button cycles
through the Auto, Red-Eye, Fill and Off modes. The middle button controls the focus modes
- normal, macro or landscape. The bottom button enables the selftimer.
The DX3900 Zoom has a Video Out feature with user-selectable NTSC or PAL format. The
USB port works with the Kodak Picture Sofware to make image downloading fast and easy
even without the use of the optional Easy Share Dock.
The DX3900 Zoom comes with an 8MB CompactFlash card and is equipped with a CF Type I
card slot that accepts any capacity CF card.
Power is supplied by two AA type batteries - Kodak does not recommend the use of alkaline type and supplies a CRV3 one-use lithium battery with the camera.
The optional Easy Share Dock includes a rechargeable NiMH battery pack.
