Kodak is known for its imaging products and, most notably, for its internationally recognized photographic film. In 1892, the Eastman Kodak Company was founded in New York state by George Eastman, camera innovator and inventor of the roll film. Kodak has had a long, successful history with cameras. One of the company's earliest successes dates back to 1900 with the introduction of the Brownie, a simple-to-use cardboard camera that sold for a dollar and was aimed at mainstreaming photography.
True to its innovative roots, Kodak invented the world's first digital camera in 1975 and was among the first to release a digital camera to consumers. The Kodak DC40 digital camera bowed in 1995 and featured a built-in automatic flash, self timer, and internal storage for up to 48 photos. In 2001, Kodak debuted the EasyShare line of digital cameras which allowed users to easily transfer images to a computer with a bundled dock.
Kodak EasyShare cameras are currently divided into three series, all adhering to the company's philosophy of simplicity and user-friendliness. C-Series models are basic, entry-class cameras. M-Series models include more advanced features and sleek designs. Kodak's higher-priced performance line is designated the Z-Series. Z-Series cameras offer powerful zoom lenses, manual options, and other tools designed to appeal to camera enthusiasts. Kodak currently does not make digital SLRs.
