Fujifilm X-T100 Preview

Fuji is making some of the best digital cameras you buy for your money and they're changing the entry-level mirrorless game with the new X-T100. In many ways, this camera is more important to the company that the X-T2 and the new X-H1. Those cameras are competing at the top of the Mirrorless ILC game at just under $2000 dollars for the body only.

This 24.2 MP APS-C mirrorless camera from Fuji starts at only $599 for the body only. In a quote from Fuji's press release for the X-T100 fuji states:

"This mirrorless camera is a perfect fit for photographers looking for an easy to use, compact and versatile camera, offering excellent image quality with a variety of enhanced features with the familiar design of previous FUJIFILM X-T series cameras."

This just might be the entry-level mirrorless ILC camera people have been waiting for. This camera directly competes with Canon's recently released M-50 which is a 24.1MP APS-C ILC with many similar features. You're talking about sub $650 dollar cameras with similar features and abilities of their more expensive siblings that cost up to three times as much. If you're in the market for a new mid-level camera at an almost entry level price, the camera gods are smiling upon you.

The new X-T100 has features like 4K video with phase detection autofocus, 60fps HD video a native ISO range of 200 - 12800 extended up to 100 - 51200 and a battery that is rated to capture up to 430 images on a single charge.
At its core is a 24.2 MP APS-C sensor coupled with high-speed image processing and proprietary color reproduction technology. Toss in the fact that you can use ANY X mount lens and you have a formidable camera indeed. It has an adjustable 3" LCD screen that can swivel out horizontally and tilt up and down which when combined with the external microphone port make this a great camera for vlogging. It's also a beautiful little retro-styled camera that comes in three colors -- Black, Dark Silver and Champagne Gold -- and despite looking like a vintage 35mm camera still only weighs 448grams (just under one pound)!
The trickle-down effect of advanced options coming from higher priced models in the same line-up is strong with the X-T100. You're going to get that fast phase detection autofocus on a crisp built-in electronic viewfinder that makes it feel like you're using a camera that costs twice the price. The X-T100 also has 11 variations of FUJIFILM Film Simulation modes on top of 17 variations of Advanced Filters.

Fuji has also included a state of the art Auto mode they call "advanced SR+ Auto shooting mode" in which the camera will automatically both detect the subject in focus and the scene and select what it considers to be the optimum settings for both. The X-T100 has both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, with Bluetooth being optimal for preserved battery life and can connect to smartphones via an App to expand the capabilities of the camera. You can instantly transfer images from the camera to your phone, you can use the app as a remote and take pictures from afar or use it as a second monitor to see what your camera sees. You're finally getting what everyone wants in a new camera. Something that takes better stills and video than their smartphone without losing the ease of use and connectivity.

The new Fuji X-T100 is the perfect camera to lure consumers back into the ILC world from their smartphones and I can't wait to see more of it when it actually comes out.
