Playback Screens & Menus

Please excuse the poor quality of these screen captures. The PowerShot SX610 HS kit does not include an AV output cable, therefore we had to photograph the display screen.

Playback - main GIF.gif

When viewing photos in Playback mode with the Canon PowerShot SX610 HS, you'll have three screen display options. The first screen lists the date and time the image was shot in the lower right corner, the image resolution and quality in the lower left corner, and the file name in the upper right corner.

Press the Disp button on the back of the camera to see more details about the image, which will shrink into the upper left corner of the screen. A histogram will appear in the lower left corner. Along the right side of the screen you'll see additional data, including the shooting mode, shutter speed, ISO setting, aperture, EV setting, white balance, image size, and image resolution.

Press Disp again to remove all data from the screen and to return the image to full-screen view.

Playback - grid GIF.gif
To make use of the SX610's thumbnail grid function press the zoom ring to the left with a single image displayed on the screen. The thumbnail grid options with this Canon point-n-shoot model are 2x3, 3x4, 6x6, and 10x10.

With a thumbnail grid image highlighted press the Func/Set button to bring the image to the full screen.

Playback - magnify GIF.gif
With a single image displayed on the screen in Playback mode, press the zoom ring to the right to magnify the photo. As you magnify the image, a white outlined box will appear in the lower right corner to represent the full image. The smaller filled-in white box represents the current view versus the entire image. Use the four-way button to change the portion of the image that you can view. Ten levels of magnification are available.

Playback - popup GIF.gif
Canon offers a popup menu in Playback mode that gives you quick access to a variety of Playback settings. While in Playback mode with a single image on the screen, press the Func/Set button to open the popup menu along the left side of the screen, where the options are:

  • Rotate
  • Protect
  • Favorites
  • Erase
  • Smart Shuffle - Camera suggests four similar photos that are stored on your memory card
  • Image Search - Cancel, People, Shot Date, Favorites, Still Image/Movie

You also can apply a color effect to the stored image by working through the Playback menu screen. Press the Menu button with a single image on the screen and scroll down to My Colors. Press Func/Set twice to open the My Colors menu along the bottom of the screen. Highlight the color effect you want to use and press Func/Set to apply it. The My Color options are:

  • Vivid
  • Neutral

  • Positive Film
  • Lighter Skin Tone
  • Darker Skin Tone
  • Vivid Blue

Playback - slideshow GIF.gif
The PowerShot SX610's slideshow effect is fun to use, giving you a few different transition options between the images stored on the memory card. Use the Playback popup menu described above to pick your slideshow transition option. And with it highlighted on the screen, press the Func/Set button to start the slideshow.

With the slideshow running press Func/Set to pause and restart the slideshow. Press the Menu button to end the slideshow.

Playback - movie GIF.gif

With a movie on the screen in Playback mode, you can see data about the movie similar to what you saw with a still image. Press Disp on the bottom of the four-way button back of the camera to change the look of the data on the screen.

To play the movie on the SX610's LCD screen, press the Func/Set button twice. You'll see a bar across the bottom of the screen representing the length of the video clip and the current position. Press Func/Set again to pause the movie.

Playback - wireless GIF.gif

Canon included both Wi-Fi and NFC wireless capabilities with the PowerShot SX610. To use the Wi-Fi option, press the top of the four-way button from Playback mode to open the Wi-Fi screen, from which you can choose your connection preference.

To connect with an NFC-enabled device just touch the N-Mark on the left side of the camera to the N-Mark of the other device.

Canon also included a Mobile Device Connection button on the back of the SX610. When you press this button, you can connect to a smartphone or tablet that you've specified. You'll have to download an app to your mobile device before you can use this button.
