Playback Screens & Menus

Please excuse the poor quality of these screen captures. The PowerShot G7 X kit does not include an AV output cable, therefore we had to photograph the display screen.

To review photos stored on the PowerShot G7 X's memory card, press the Playback button in the lower right corner on the back of the camera body. When viewing stored images, you can change the data that's displayed on the screen about each photo by pressing the Disp button (bottom of the four-way button). The display options are:

  • No data
  • Limited data, including shutter speed, aperture, EV, and ISO
  • Extensive data, with date and time, a histogram, white balance, focus mode, resolution, and shooting mode added to the limited data
  • Most data removed, but four histograms displayed

To make it easier to scroll through multiple stored images at a time, you can use the camera's thumbnail grid function. With a single image on the G7 X's screen, press the zoom ring to the left to see the grid. Continue pressing the zoom ring to the left to increase the number of thumbnails in the grid. The different grid options are 2x3, 3x4, 6x7, and 10x11.

Touch a single thumbnail to bring it to the full screen view. You also can press the zoom ring to the right to reduce the number of thumbnails.

If you spin the four-way button ring with a single image displayed on the screen, you'll be able to scroll through the stored images more quickly one at a time (as shown here) than by pressing the right and left side of the four-way button.

When the screen looks like this, you can press the up and down portions of the four-way button to skip ahead in the list of stored images by date recorded.

Playback - zoom GIF.gif
To use the PowerShot G7 X's magnification option in Playback mode, press the zoom ring to the right with a single image displayed on the screen. You'll see the current magnification setting in the lower right corner with the large box representing the full photo view and the current view represented by the small rectangle inside the box. Ten levels of magnification are available.

You also can use the LCD's touch screen capability to magnify the image in Playback mode by dragging your finger and thumb in a pinching motion on the touch screen.

Playback - movie GIF.gif

You can see a lot of the same data about movies you've shot as you can with still images with the PowerShot G7 X by using the Disp button.

To replay a movie stored on the camera's memory card, touch the Play icon on the screen or press the Disp/Set button on the back of the camera with a movie on the screen.

Playback - Wifi GIF.gif

Canon provided the PowerShot G7 X with built-in Wi-Fi and NFC capabilities. You can share images wirelessly with other cameras, smartphones, computers, printers, or cloud storage options. Setup is pretty easy with the G7 X's Wi-Fi feature, but sending photos wirelessly will drain the camera's battery pretty quickly.
