Record Screens & Menus

Canon's new PowerShot G1X, although designed for more advanced users, features a full automatic mode with scene recognition. This allows anyone to pick up the camera and capture great images without having to have extensive knowledge of the exposure process. This mode allows all of the camera settings to be adjusted by the camera, along with the correct scene mode for the situation at hand.

Program mode is also an automatic shooting mode, but the user has a little more control. Some of the camera's settings are available to the user, then the camera adjusts the others to capture the best image possible. There is no auto scene mode selection in program mode.

And of course, with full Manual, Aperture priority, Shutter priority, and two custom modes, the G1X offers as much control as one could ask for. The two custom settings allow you to set exactly what you want and save it, great for special shooting situations that you are in often. You can see above by pressing the DISP. button on the back, that you can change the amount of information that is shown on the LCD screen. A grid pattern, histogram and electronic level are very useful options that can be turned on to assist you in composition, etc. At the lower right you can see an exposure scale, which helps you dial in the exposure when using Manual mode; a very handy feature, especially if you are just starting out with Manual mode.

For special shooting situations or situations that you might not be familiar with, you can select a preset scene mode. There are many more options than the camera will automatically choose from in auto mode, so it's a good idea to look through these: Movie Digest, Portrait, Landscape, Kids & Pets, Sports, Smart Shutter, High-speed Burst HQ, Handheld NightScene, Beach, Underwater, Foliage, Snow, Fireworks, Stitch Assist.

The G1X also provides some special scene modes for more creative images: High Dynamic Range, Nostalgic, Fish-eye Effect, Miniature Effect, Toy Camera Effect, Monochrome, Super Vivid, Poster Effect, Color Accent, Color Swap.
