Record Screens & Menus

While shooting with the optical viewfinder, you will only see the necessary shooting information on the OVF's translucent LCD screen. The LCD screen on the back of the camera can then be used to show a variety of information about the camera setup or even an electronic level. With the lack of an eye-level sensor on the OVF, these screens can become a little distracting.

When pressing the "Q" button on the back of the camera, you will see the quick menu screen shown above. It gives you a list of all of the pertinent shooting information, and each item can be selected and adjusted with the the 8-way controller on the camera or just by using the touch screen. The ISO settings above give you a look at an individual setting screen.

Live View shooting offers the same look to the camera that you would find on any Canon point-n-shoot camera. Here you will see all of the shooting settings on the camera's LCD screen. This also offers you the ability to use the touch screen to focus and/or capture images with just one touch. Some of the settings and menus are also available by touching the icons on the screen.

iAuto, shown above, is a fully automatic shooting mode that takes care of all of the camera's settings for you. This includes choosing the best scene mode for your current shooting situation.

Program shooting mode is another automatic shooting mode, but offers some control over the camera's settings to the user. Settings like the ISO Speed and White Balance are available, which give you some creative freedom while the camera still makes sure you have an accurate exposure.

Manual shooting mode, along with Aperture and Shutter priority modes, give you as much control over the camera as you would like. This allows for total control and creative freedom, keeping even the most knowledgeable photographer shooting and having fun.

The EOS 80D allows you to capture Full 1080p HD video when the camera is in video recording mode. This is a little different than most point-n-shoot or mirrorless cameras that can capture video at any time. With the mirror in front of the imaging sensor, the camera must be put into video recording mode in order to capture video. Thanks to the image sensor's dual pixel technology allows you to smoothly transition the AF points while recording. It also assists in subject tracking for more accuracy.
