Bottom Line
The Apple iPhone 6 Plus camera hardware has some good advantages over the cameras in older iPhone smartphones, including optical IS that improves the camera's low light performance. The Panorama feature with this model's iSight camera is outstanding, creating images that look better than the panoramic images found on most digital cameras. While it's disappointing that the 6 Plus iSight camera doesn't measure up to the greatly improved camera hardware found on the slightly newer iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, the 6 Plus does offer overall image quality that's a bit above the average smartphone camera in the market. Apple announced two new iPhones for 2014, the iPhone 6 Plus and the iPhone 6. While both feature the same A8 chip with 64-bit architecture, M8 motion coprocessor, optional 128GB hard drive, and an upgraded iSight Camera, the iPhone 6 Plus has a larger 5.5" LED display with a Full 1920x1080 resolution (401 pixels-per-inch), optical image stabilization, and extended battery life when compared with the standard iPhone 6.

For those added features, expect to pay $100 more for the iPhone 6 Plus than a similarly equipped iPhone 6.

This year's iSight boast a new 8MP BSI CMOS image sensor capable of recording Full 1080p HD video at 60 frames-per-second (and slow motion video at up to 240fps at lower resolutions). The five-element lens has an f/2.2 aperture, Auto image stabilization, Auto HDR, Exposure Control, Burst Mode, time-lapse video capabilities, and the ability to take Panoramas as large as 43 megapixels [<-- not a typo].
