OLYMPUS PEN E-PL9 SHORT REVIEW

Though the Olympus PEN E-PL9 has a few inadequacies that keep it from being a great tool for advanced, experienced, and professional photographers, Olympus has packed it with a plethora of features that make it an excellent compact camera for casual shooters and the Instagram/YouTube generation. Alongside the sharp, detailed images it produces, and its solid noise handling, good IBIS, and 4K recording, it has an impressive number of creative filters and photo modes, a family of lenses at its disposal, and an appealing look.

OLYMPUS PEN E-PL9 ISO PERFORMANCE

One of the things that the Olympus PEN E-PL9 does best is noise handling. With a sensitivity range of LOW (about 100) – 6,400, expandable to 200 – 25,600, the compact offers ISO flexibility. Moreover, it does more than a decent job keeping chromatic and luminance noise at bay, with luminance noise only starting to become visible at 3,200 and chromatic noise at 1,600. There’s softening around 6,400 too, but the images don’t become practically unusable, at least by pro standard, around 12,600.

The Olympus Pen E-PL9 boasts 16 Art Filters including the new Instant Film filter, 9 Advanced Photo Modes (essentially automated versions of more advanced photographic techniques), and 6 Scene Modes. They’re part of what makes this camera an awesome tool for the less experienced shooters.
