Steve’s Digicams recently partnered with Tamron USA to host the Shadow & Light Photo Contest in coordination with Steve’s Digicams’ twenty-year-young Photo of the Day, and we received over a hundred stunning entries. Narrowing them all down to ten finalists was a nearly-impossible challenge, and picking two contest winners was even more difficult.
Everyone who entered is supremely talented, but alas we don’t have ten lenses to give away, so we had to pick two.
Drum roll, please…
FIRST PLACE WINNER: Tim Kolczak
The Story Behind Tim’s Photo: “My flash was actually broken so I had no choice but to use the LED flashlight on my iPhone X. I had Josue’s wife Debbie hold the light, illuminating the side of his face. You can see CPL Barron’s injury from stepping on a pressure plate IED in Helmand Province, Afghanistan in a historically devastating deployment with 3/5 Marines in 2010. He lost his eye and a leg. You can see the Marine Corps EGA embossed on his glass eye, and this was illuminated by the LED.”
RUNNER-UP WINNER: Daniel Gomez
PRIZE: Tamron SP 45mm F/1.8 Di VC USD ($399 MSRP).
The Story Behind Daniel’s Photo: “I had this shot in mind all summer and just needed to wait for the right time for the Milky Way to align with Stonehenge in Washington. I lit the interior with 2 LED panels and had to blend in an exposure to recover highlight details on the interior of the structure.”
Congratulations to you both; please be on the lookout for an email from me so we can get your shipping information and lens-mount choice over to the folks at Tamron USA.
Thanks so very much to all who entered!
