Samsung NV15 Review

Features & Controls
The NV15 features a Schneider Varioplan Zoom Lens, 7.3 - 21.9mm (35mm film equivalent of 34 - 104mm), F2.8 - F5.2. Focus type is TTL
auto focus with Normal, Macro or Auto Macro focus settings. When the camera is turned off, most of the lens is retracted inside of the
body and is protected by a built-in lens cover. The image sensor is a 1/1.8-inch CCD with an effective pixel count of 10.1-megapixels.

The flash pops up on the top of the camera in a low light environment. When powered down you can manually close the flash.
The operating range of the flash is 1.3 ft - 15 ft. Flash modes include Auto, Auto & red-eye reduction, Fill-in,
Slow sync, Red-eye fix and Flash off. The flash recharge time is approx. 4 seconds, an slight improvement over the NV10 model.
![]() On the back of the NV15 is a bright, 2.5-inch (6.35cm), 230,000 pixel, LCD display. The LCD is surrounded on two sides by what Samsung calls "Smart Buttons". These buttons do not have any labels since their function changes depending on the camera's mode setting. This novel approach to controlling the camera took a moment to get used to, but revealed itself to be very clever. Also on the back are a status light, the wide/zoom button, the play button and a back/Face recognition button.

In addition to the pop-up flash, the controls on the top of the camera include the power button, the shutter release,
the mode dial
and a small speaker.

The bottom of the camera has one, multi-purpose Samsung USB/AV/charging connector. It may seem like a little thing but I think combining
all connectors into one is brilliant. However, it is difficult to access the IO connector while using a tripod.
Approximate Storage Capacity (256 MB MMC memory card)![]() ![]() Powering the NV15 is a Samsung Lithium Ion battery (SLB-0837 B) that charges while inside the camera. Samsung has taken a creative approach to the AC charger. The USB cable is also the charger cable - you just plug it into a small AC adapter. The same USB cable plugs into your PC to transfer your photos and recharge from the PC. It took 2 hours to charge the battery using the AC adapter and 4 hours to charge directly from the PC. The battery lasts for approx. 200 exposures in mixed use with flash or 95 minutes when shooting video. |
