Playback Features

Playback Menu 1

  • Protect images: Protect (or un-protect) images from being deleted

  • Rotate: Rotate an image

  • Erase images: Deletes all images on the memory card except for those that have been Protected.

  • Print order: Specify images to be printed using DPOF protocol

  • Transfer order: Used to select images to be transferred to a PC

  • Image copy: Copy images between memory cards

  • External media backup: (When WFT-E2/E2A is attached) Used to backup images via wireless access point

Playback Menu 2

  • Highlight alert: Displays overexposed areas on an image, Disable or Enable

  • AF point disp.: Displays the Auto Focus point which achieved focus, Disable or Enable

  • Histogram: Shows the exposure level distribution, overall brightness and gradation

  • Enlarge display: Choose to zoom from image center or selected AF point

  • Image jump: Jump 1 image, 10 images, 100 images, Screen, Date, Folder

To review captured images you press the PLAYBACK button (the small right-pointing triangle below the color LCD), this puts the camera into playback mode and the last image captured is displayed. To scroll through the images saved you rotate the Quick Control dial. The Single image screen shows the picture full screen with the shutter speed, aperture, image number and source memory card (1=CF, 2=SD) above the image. If the Highlight Alert option is enabled any portion of the image that is over-exposed or potentially over-exposed will blink.

If you press the INFO button while in PLAYBACK mode the camera will change the display format. First you begin with the single image display, press the INFO button you will see the image plus image size info. Press the INFO button again and you see the image, info and histogram. And a final press will show the shooting information display.

If the Auto Rotate option was enabled when you captured the picture it will be displayed like this on playback. You can manually rotate portrait mode images via the playback menu when needed.

The Single image can be enlarged, by pressing the magnifier+ button, from 1.5X up to 10X for inspection of focus, color or composition. You can use the Multi-controller button to scroll around the magnified image at any step. RAW images are displayed unsharpened. If you want to field-check focus when shooting RAW images, record RAW + Small JPEG with a high value for sharpness; the camera will display the sharpened JPEG in playback mode.

During image playback you turn on the index function by pressing the magnifier- button. First the 4-up index is displayed. Press the magnifier- button a second time and you'll see a 9-up image display.

While viewing an image you can record a voice annotation (or add any sound) by pressing and holding the Protect/Sound Record button down for 2 seconds. You can record up to 30 seconds, stop recording by releasing the button.
