Playback Menu

    Delete - Selected or All images
    Playback folder - Current or All folders
    Rotate tall - Yes= rotate portrait images, No = do not rotate
    Slide show - Start auto playback, set Frame Interval 2-10 secs.
    Hide image - Images may be hidden from Playback mode
    Print set - Embed DPOF (Digital Print Order Format) information.

Shooting Menu

    Optimize image - Active when in P,S,A or M mode

      Normal - Recommended for most situations (default)
      Vivid - Enhances saturation, contrast and sharpness
      Sharper - Sharpens outlines
      Softer - Softens outlines for smoother portraits
      Direct Print - Optimizes for printing as-is via USB
      Portrait - Lowers contrast and softens background details
      Landscape - Enhances saturation and sharpness for landscapes
      Custom -
        Sharpening - Auto, Normal, Low, Medium low, Medium high, None
        Tone compensation - Auto, Low, Medium low, Medium high, High contrast
        Color mode - Ia (sRGB natural), II (AdobeRGB), IIIa (sRGB more vivid)
        Saturation - Moderate(-), Normal, Enhanced(+)
        Hue adjustment - Adjust color hue -9° to +9° in 3° increments
      Long exposure NR - Enable noise reduction for 1 second or longer shutter speeds
      Image quality - JPEG (Fine 1:4, Normal 1:8, Basic 1:16), or NEF Raw Compressed
      Image size - Large (3008x2000), Medium (2240x1488) or Small (1504x1000)
      White Balance - Auto, Incandescent, Fluorescent, Direct Sunlight, Flash, Cloudy or Shade with fine tuning or Custom Preset
      ISO - Sensitivity (200, 250, 320, 400, 500, 640, 800, 1000, 1250, 1600)

    To view help on Custom Settings, press the (HELP) button when an item is highlighted in the CSM menu or when the options for a Custom Setting are displayed.

    Custom Settings

      R Menu reset - Reset all custom settings to default

      01 Beep - Off or On; Beep sounds in self-timer and delayed remote modes, when photo is taken in quick-response remote mode, or when camera has focused in single-servo AF

      02 Autofocus - Single-servo or Continuous-servo AF

      03 AF-area mode - Single area, Dynamic area, Closest subject

      04 AF assist - Off or On = AF-assist illuminator lights automatically

      05 ISO auto - Off = fixed, On = auto 200-1600 as needed

      06 No CF Card? - Enable/disable shutter lock if no CF card is inserted

      07 Image review - Enable or disable Image Review after capture

      08 Grid display - Off or On = display grids in viewfinder

      09 EV step - 1/3 or 1/2 steps for shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation, flash compensation, and exposure and flash bracketing settings

      10 Exposure comp. - Exposure compensation set with button and Command dial or Command dial only

      11 Center-weighted - Diameter of center-weighted metering circle; 6mm, 8mm, 10mm or 12mm

      12 BKT Set - Determine if auto exposure and/or flash exposure change with each shot in Auto Bracketing mode

      13 BKT Order - MTR>Under>Over or Under>MTR>Over

      14 Command Dial - Command dial sets shutter speed, sub-command dial sets the aperture or vice-versa

      15 AE-L/AF-L - Specifies the function of the AE / AF Lock button

      16 AE Lock - AE/AF Lock button locks exposure or the Shutter button

      17 Focus Area - Off or On = wrap around selection

      18 AF area illm - Illuminate active AF area in viewfinder

      19 Flash mode - TTL auto, Manual output (full, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16) and no monitor preflash is emitted for slave flash operation or Commander mode to control SB-800 or SB-600 speedlights in wireless mode

      20 Flash sign - Display flash warn in viewfinder in P, M, A or S mode if flash is required and not raised

      21 Shutter spd - Slowest shutter speed in P and A modes (1/60 to 30 secs.)

      22 Monitor off - Time the LCD monitor stays on (10s, 20s, 1m, 5m, 10m)

      23 Meter-off - The time that information is shown on the data LCD and viewfinder status line (4, 6, 8, 16 secs or 30 mins.)

      24 Self-timer - Define value for the self-timer (2, 5, 10 or 20 secs)

      25 Remote - Controls how long the camera will wait for signal from remote control when no operations are performed in delayed remote or quick-response remote modes: 1 minute (default), 5 minutes, 10 minutes, or 15 minutes. If no signal is received in the specified period or the camera is turned off, the camera will revert to single-frame or continuous mode (whichever was last in effect).

    Setup Menu

      Folders - Select, Create, Rename or Delete image folders
      File No. Seq - Off, On, Reset file numbering
      Format - Format the CF card. FAT-32 supported, FAT-16 is used if the card is already formatted in FAT-16.
      CSM menu - Simple (first 10 items only) or Advanced (show all 26 items) mode
      Date - Set internal clock
      LCD brightness - Adjust brightness of the color LCD
      Mirror lock-up - Lock mirror up for CCD cleaning
      Video mode - Video signal format (PAL or NTSC)
      Language - Menu language (German, English, French, Japanese, Spanish)
      Image comment - Identifier text attached to all images
      USB - Mass Storage or PTP mode
      Dust ref photo - Acquire Dust Reference Photo for Nikon Capture software
      Firmware Ver. - Display revision numbers for A and B firmware sets and used for updating the camera firmware
      Image rotation - Automatic portrait mode rotation in playback
