Sony DPP-SV55
Sony's DPP-SV55 photo printer makes pictures from your digital photos, at home, and no PC is required. Simply plug the video cable into your TV, insert Memory Stick Media (or other flash media with optional PC card adapters) and view, adjust and print pictures right in the living room. The new Sony DPP-SV55 digital photo printer is available as of this review (07/2002)
for about $399 and the Print Pack consisting of everything needed to print 25 4x6's is
$19.95 (about $.80/print).
The DPP-SV55 printer is built for speed and convenience and features high-resolution
photo printing, borderless 4" x 6" photo prints and dye sublimation technology to
create up to 16.7 million colors. Each photo prints in 90 seconds and is laminated
with Super Coat 2 to protect it from fading, humidity and liquid splatters that would
ruin other pictures.
The DPP-SV55 can print photos independent of a computer, but also from a PC or Mac via
a USB connection. The printer has a dedicated slot for Memory Stick media and a slot
for Type II PC cards, including SmartMedia, CompactFlash and SecureDigital /
MultiMedia Card (with appropriate adapters.)
When connected to a computer you can use the printer's card slots to transfer files from flash
memory cards to your hard drive, eliminating the need for a seperate card reader.
The controls are conveniently located all accross the top. Starting on the left
with the Power button, then; Input Select, Auto Pint, Menu, Effect, Creative Pint, and Save.
The next line has the main controls including Picture, 4 way Navigation, Enter, Cancel and
Print.

All Sony photo printers take advantage of the Digital Print Order Format (DPOF) function, which
automatically prints photos that have been marked for print in-camera by supporting cameras.
Another option is the printer's "Print All" option on trhe Auro Print button that sends all
saved images to print.
The USB port(1.1) allows for connection to Windows PC or Mac computers. The DPP-SV55 can also be connected to a TV or VCR and used for slideshow displays of your digital pictures.
