The Epson Artisan 810 uses Epson's patented Claria Ink system. Claria is a dye based ink that is absorbed into the paper coating and is said to resist scratching. The 810 utilizes a 6 cartridge system where each color is kept individual, the benefit is that you only replace the color you are running low on.
Here you see the cartridges and their location on the printer. Epson boasts the highest capacity cartridge available providing 60% more prints than a standard cartridge. They also claim the ink to be smudge proof, water and fade resistant as well as claiming that they stand up to humidity and moisture spills. Lastly, the Claria ink is also said to last 200 years in prints stored in a photo album, or 98 years on display.
