The PENTAX Optio T10 offers an impressive 3.0 inch LCD touch-display for trouble-free operation. Featuring 6.0 megapixels and a 3X zoom, the Optio T10 is slim and stylish, offers finger and stylus touch control, and allows users to decorate images with drawings, stamps, and picture frames. The camera will be available for .95 in March 2006.

PENTAX Optio T10 Major Features

Easy-to-view 3.0 inch oversized LCD monitor

The Optio T10 accommodates the largest PENTAX digital camera LCD monitor, which offers 3.0 inches and about 230,000 pixels for exceptional clarity and definition. Picture playback and settings are easier than ever with the larger and clearer image display and menu text. Since the monitor sports a wide viewing field, the screen remains easy to see and nearly as bright and colorful when viewed at an angle. This is helpful when monitoring shots at low or high angles or when showing off photos to a group of people.

Touch display makes operations simple and enjoyable

The Optio T10 touch display allows you to select and confirm functions by directly touching the LCD screen. The simplicity of touching and selecting the icon of the function you want from the displayed menu takes the stress out of setting up the camera.

Excellent image quality

The 6.0 effective megapixel CCD delivers images with exceptional definition. The camera boasts the well-regarded smc PENTAX lens, which renders clear, high-contrast images, while our unique lens coating cuts out ghosting and other artifacts. And the Optio T10’s superb image processing technology produces vivid colors and creates smooth tonal expressions at all brightness levels.

My Drawing mode for easy picture design

The Optio T10 comes with a My Drawing mode, which lets you enjoy customizing your shots. With the enclosed stylus pen, users may create original pictures by writing directly on the image shown on the monitor or adding a stored illustration with the Stamp function. The camera also has a function for storing your favorite photos as original stamps.

19.5 mm body is the one of the thinnest in its class

We successfully slimmed down the camera’s body by utilizing a 3X-optical zoom lens that employs the PENTAX Sliding Lens System* together with a high-density mounting technology that creates an incredibly efficient layout with almost no spaces between components. The resulting 19.5-mm-wide body is the thinnest in its class even with the 3.0-inch extra-large LCD monitor.

PENTAX’s proprietary lens system that offsets the central lens groups from the optical axis and houses the lens elements in two separate stages in the lens barrel to reduce the overall lens length and thereby minimize the body depth.

12 shooting modes cover a wide range of scenes

The Optio T10 features 12 versatile shooting modes specialized for conditions such as Portrait, Landscape, Flower, or Night Scene. Just choose the mode matching the subject scene and the camera automatically optimizes the exposure, white balance, and other settings. Selecting the mode is easy with the touch display and the Mode Palette, which displays PENTAX’s original mode icons on the monitor.

High-quality movie function with long recording times

The Optio T10 smoothly captures movies at 30 fps (frames per second) at sizes up to 640 ? 480 pixels with image quality rivaling camcorders.

The camera includes a movie editing function that can save a frame from a recorded movie as a still image.

Exquisite design

We employed a high-grade aluminum alloy for the camera’s exterior. The elegant design is finished off with the soft rounded contours of the top cover that accentuate the unit’s thinness and project a friendly image.

The PENTAX Optio W10 sets the latest PENTAX standard for waterproof digital with 6.0 megapixels and a reflection-free LCD that offers optimal viewing in outdoor settings. The Optio W10 will ship in March for under .00. Third in the PENTAX waterproof digital line-up, the Optio W10 features JIS Class 8 Waterproof and JIS Class 5 dustproof ratings. PENTAX unveiled the microsite earlier this year for "W" series buyers to learn more about the camera’s capabilities, purchase accessories and provide product feedback about the camera’s performance.

PENTAX Optio W10 Major Features

High waterproof performance without additional housing

The Optio W10 offers JIS class 8 waterproof performance to withstand up to 30 minutes of continuous operation at an underwater depth up to five (1.5 meters). The Optio W10 conforms to Class 5 dustproof performance of category 2 (machines produced to prevent internal changes in atmospheric pressure). This performance makes ideal for outdoor activity sports and outdoor events. Waterproof performance also allows users to rinse the camera off any time.

2.5 inch LCD monitor with superb visibility outdoors

The Optio W10 comes with a 2.5 inch low-reflection LCD monitor. The LCD cover is finished with a non-glare coating, making the screen easier to see even outside on a sunny day. The LCD backlighting mechanism features a brightness adjustment as well as a Power Saving mode, which automatically reduces the backlight intensity to preserve battery life.

High-quality movie recording

The Optio W10 smoothly captures movies at 30 fps (frames per second) at sizes up to 640 x 480 pixels with image quality rivaling camcorders. Furthermore, switching on the newly added movie anti-shake function* automatically compensates for camera shake while recording movies. (The anti-shake function can be switched on or off.)
* Using the movie Shake Reduction feature results in a narrower field of view than during normal recording.

Face Recognition AF/AE -- a new technology that adjusts focus and exposure for portraits

The Optio W10 is equipped with Face Recognition AF/AE, a new technology that detects faces and automatically adjusts the focus and corrects the exposure to suit. When the camera’s shooting mode is set to one of Portrait, Self-Portrait, or Natural Skin Tone, this feature will detect and focus on a person’s face anywhere in the picture frame. This technology is particularly effective at preventing "dropout" photos, where the camera focuses on the background and not on the person when taking commemorative or other valuable photos. At the same time, this feature automatically corrects the exposure so the face is properly exposed even in lighting situations where the brightness of the person and the background are drastically different, such as when a person is under a spotlight or on a strongly backlit stage.

Continuous AF and tracking AF

Continuous AF* or tracking AF** are activated automatically upon selection of Sport, Pet or Kids modes – allowing the camera to track a moving subject within the frame and maintain accurate focus accordingly.
* For focus on stationary subjects, the shutter release button is depressed halfway to drive the lens to focus lock. Continuous AF, on the other hand, allows the lens to be driven constantly to ensure swift, precise focus as soon as the shutter release button is depressed halfway.
** Tracking AF continually detects both horizontal and vertical movement of the main subject to ensure sharp focus at the desired moment. Confirmation of the focus area can be done on the focus frame on the LCD monitor.

High-sensitivity shooting

The Optio W10 supports high-sensitivity shooting* at standard output sensitivity 800 (sensitivity is selectable). This enables fast shutter speeds for crisp, sharp shots with minimal blurring even in dark conditions or with moving subjects.
* The camera supports sensitivities up to Standard output sensitivity 800 with sensitivity set to Auto and either Candlelight mode or Report mode selected. The recording size with Report mode selected, however, is fixed at 1280 x 960 pixels.

Super image quality from the 3X optical zoom lens and 6.0 effective megapixels

The Optio W10 includes a 3X optical zoom lens that covers focal lengths from 6.3 to 18.9 mm (equivalent to 38 to 114 mm for 35mm film) and features a "folding" optical system so the lens never protrudes from the camera while zooming. Optical components have been redesigned for higher resolution, delivering advanced image quality that takes full advantage of the raw power of 6.0 effective megapixels.

Simplified operations with the Mode Palette

Selection of shooting and playback modes is made much easier with the Mode Palette, PENTAX’s original mode selection function that lists mode icons on the LCD monitor. By arranging 25 shooting modes and 15 playback modes, the Mode Palette speeds up mode selection with its straightforward display. Pressing the green button while in the Mode Palette activates a guide function, which displays explanations of each mode.

Green button for immediate setup screen access

The Option W10 includes a green button that immediately calls up the setup screen for settings such as exposure correction and sensitivity. Users may assign frequently used functions to the green button to speed up setups when shooting. Up to four functions* can be assigned. Initially, the Green mode is pre-assigned to the green button (the three other functions are not assigned).
* Functions that can be assigned to the Green button: Green mode, recording size, image quality, white balance, AF area, focus limit, sensitivity, exposure compensation, sharpness, saturation, contrast, and off.

Green mode for easy camera-controlled shooting

The camera features a Green mode, which simplifies picture taking by letting the camera control detailed settings. Since a simple press of the green button activates the Green mode,* even beginning photographers can enjoy taking pictures with ease. The Green mode resets the shooting menu, setup menu, and other settings to their defaults and locks the menu and mode buttons and other controls so you don’t have to worry about unintentionally changing the settings. This mode comes in handy when asking someone else to take your picture.
*Available when the Green mode is assigned to the green button.

Slim body with a flat design

The slim, flat body design of the Optio W10 allows it to be easily retrieved from pockets, bags, and cases. The camera’s grip is fashioned with a finger-rest in the shape of a water droplet for better portability. An aluminum alloy is employed for the front panel, producing a high-grade sensibility. The rounded form also gives the camera a friendly impression.

Other features:

  • Ready to shoot just 0.6 seconds after the power is turned on
  • Real-time display of "washed out" and "blacked out" areas
  • Image Recovery function lets you retrieve accidentally erased pictures
  • Picture Voice function can record sounds before and after taking a picture
  • Macro mode allows close-up photography as near as 1 cm
  • Frame composite function allows you, either when shooting or after shooting, to add a decorative frame that is printed around the image
  • Soft flash function avoids overexposure during close-up flash photography
  • Up to 4X digital zooming
  • Three color modes (full-color, B&W, sepia) for versatile movie recording
  • "Clock Mode" function displays the time even when the camera is off
  • SD memory card compatible; approx. 10.5MB built-in memory
  • Standard image viewer, ACDSee for PENTAX software
  • FotoNation’s red-eye compensation function for flash shots
  • DPOF, Exif Print, and PRINT Image Matching III compatibility

With a 2.5 inch monitor, 6.0 megapixels and a 3X optical zoom, the affordable PENTAX M10 also will be featured at PMA 2006 and will ship in March 2006 for .95.

PENTAX Optio M10 Major Features

High-quality images assured by a 3X optical zoom lens and 6.0 effective megapixels

The Optio M10 incorporates a high-performance 3X optical zoom lens, which offers an angle- of-view coverage equivalent to 35mm to 105mm in the 35mm format. This versatile zoom lens allows the user to capture a variety of subjects — from landscape to snapshots and portraits — in perfect composition by means of effortless fingertip operation. Its six-element, five- group optics includes two aspherical lens elements to effectively compensate various aberrations, while optimizing the performance of 6.0 effective megapixels.

Large 2.5 inch color LCD monitor with easy outdoor viewing

Despite its compact dimensions, the Optio M10 features a large, low-reflection 2.5-inch color LCD monitor. Its auto LCD dimmer function automatically adjusts backlight brightness according to the incident-light level, making it possible for the user to view the screen comfortably, whether shooting in a dimly lit indoor setting or outdoors in the bright sun. This not only assures quick, effortless confirmation of images both during shooting and playback, but also facilitates the reading and selection of on-screen menus for swift, efficient camera operation.

Simple, user-friendly operation system

In order to assure best results with minimal effort, the Optio M10 offers the convenient Green Mode, which automatically and instantly sets all factors — including exposure, sensitivity and white balance — to the optimum levels, with a single push of the green button on the back panel. Since this user-friendly mode eliminates complicated camera operations completely, it lets even first-time digital camera users to take beautiful, high- quality images with minimal effort.

Outstanding battery life

Thanks to its comprehensive energy-saving design and layout, the Optio M10 provides exceptional battery life (approximately 220 images with AA-size alkaline batteries,* or approximately 900 images with AA-size lithium batteries*) — nearly seven times longer** than conventional models. Since it accepts the globally available AA-size batteries, the user will have no worries about obtaining fresh batteries on the road.
* Measured under testing conditions prescribed by CIPA standards.
** Compared to a previous PENTAX model of the same category using AA-size alkaline batteries.

Easy-to-operate mode palettes

The Optio M10 features the PENTAX-original mode palette system for smooth, effortless selection of shooting and playback modes. The shooting mode palette displays 15 easy-to- understand mode icons, while the playback mode palette offers eight. All the use has to do to set the desired mode is select the corresponding icon on the screen.

High-precision Autofocus with responsive Tracking AF

When the tracking AF mode* is selected, the Optio M10’s focus frame continually follows the main subject as it moves around in the image field, ensuring sharp, crisp focus at the shutter release. This mode is automatically selected by the camera in the Sport, Pet and Kids shooting modes.
* Tracking AF continually detects both horizontal and vertical movement of the main subject to ensure sharp focus at the desired moment. Confirmation of the focus area can be done on the focus frame on the LCD monitor.

Compact, lightweight body with comfortable grip

Despite its compact, lightweight design, the Optio M10 features an ergonomically designed grip, which assures a comfortable, steady hold of the camera during shooting and image playback. This grip also contributes to an effective reduction of camera shake.

Compatibility with the ImageLink printing system

The Optio M10 is compatible with the ImageLink printing system, which allows wireless connection of a digital camera to ImageLink-compatible printers. By simply placing the Optio M10 on the printer’s dock, the user can take advantage of simple, push-button printing of recorded images, without requiring a personal computer.

  • SD memory card compatibility as external memory, in addition to approximately 22MB of built-in memory.
  • Digital zoom function (up to approximately 4X magnification).
  • Macro mode for close-up shooting down to a mere 10 centimeters from the subject.
  • Preselectable picture frames to add a frame of the user’s choice to an image.
  • Resizing and trimming functions to process recorded images on the camera.
  • Voice recording function.
  • ACDSee for PENTAX image viewing and filing software included.
  • PictBridge compatibility.
  • DPOF, Exif Print and PRINT Image Matching III compatibility.
  • Standard accessories: USB cable, AV cable, camera strap, software CD-ROM, two AA-size alkaline batteries, dock adapter (for printer dock connection).

All three models reflect a new naming system for PENTAX cameras based on a letter and model number description rather than the number of megapixels. The Optio T series, for example, designates the touch-screen series, Optio W indicates the waterproof series, and Optio M indicates a mid-range series.

"Our aim with the new naming system is to make it easier for customers to understand our product line, from entry to high-end and allows much more flexibility in expanding our product line as we move forward with these camera lines," said Ned Bunnell, director or marketing, PENTAX Imaging Company.

The naming system was unveiled earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show with the introduction of the entry-level Optio E10 and the advanced 8.0 megapixel PENTAX Optio A10. The PENTAX Optio A10 is one of only two digital imaging devices in the world to feature DivX®, a fully Certified Encoder device that captures full-screen VGA (640 x 480, 30 fps) video. Equipped with DivX, the Optio A10 camera allows users to capture, create, play and share high-quality video content across a range of other DivX equipped devices and platforms such as DVD players, recorders and portable media players. The popular PENTAX Optio S6 also features DivX.

In addition, the previously announced PENTAX AF-540FGZ auto flash unit is scheduled to ship in April 2006. This clip-on, twist/tilt, auto-zoom flash provides a variety of advanced flash applications, including P-TTL auto flash, high-speed synchronization and wireless P- TTL auto flash, when mounted on a PENTAX digital SLR camera. The unit features a large guide number of 54 (at ISO100/m). The announcement also follows earlier action by PENTAX to lower the price of the *ist DL digital SLR camera kit with 18-55 lens to under US. More information is available at the microsite
