With its smart design featuring functional beauty, the EX-G1 embodies Casio's endurance-minded features and specifications in a sleek 0.78-inch*2 low-profile camera.
Casio first introduced the shock-resistant G-SHOCK® timepiece to the world in 1983. The
G-SHOCK brand remains extremely popular among consumers and adventure enthusiasts around the globe thanks to its distinctive, unique design, rugged toughness and practicality, even under severe environmental conditions. In 2000, Casio launched the G'zOne®, a durable, water-resistant mobile phone.
Casio is positioning the EXILIM G brand in an "endurance" category, which demonstrates its determination to create digital cameras suitable for top athletes and adventurers. The endurance category caters to those who never quit challenging both extreme conditions and their own limits. The new model was developed to embody this brand concept, using Casio's years of experience creating technologies for shock resistance, waterproofing and slim-line design.
The EX-G1 is designed with shock-resistant elements throughout the camera, both inside and out, creating a smart look in a slim-line camera with functional beauty. In addition to capturing high-resolution 12.1 effective megapixel images, the EX-G1 also features modes such as interval shooting and multi-image capture which utilize the camera's endurance qualities. The interval shooting function can automatically take still photos or movies at fixed intervals, enabling users to capture great shots while engaged in active sports such as snowboarding or cycling*3.
"Whether it is the lifestyle that you have chosen or your career path that requires you to carry a camera tough enough to endure life's elements, the EXILIM G EX-G1 offers an endurance level that will withstand the demands of your daily routine," says Toshi Iguchi, senior general manager of Casio's Digital Imaging Division. "The EX-G1, Casio's toughest camera to date, is a prime example of Casio's constant devotion to creating cameras to accommodate all levels of photographers."
Through rigorous testing, the EX-G1 has been designed and created with a shock-resistant shell which passes drop tests including multiple falls from seven feet.*4 Featuring a two-layer construction with a stainless steel outer-casing, the EX-G1 inner body withstands shock and water damage. Main features of the new GXR
1. Ideal form for an interchangeable lens camera: The interchangeable unit camera system
・By integrating lens, image sensor, and image processing engine into a single optimized unit, we were able to created a compact camera with interchangeable lenses.
・The adoption of this new system has made it possible to achieve both "pocket size for go-anywhere portability" and "the highest image quality for every photographic situation and subject."
・Since the image sensor is not exposed when lenses are changed, the camera's structure makes it inherently difficult for dirt and dust to get inside.
・Putting image processing engines in both the body and the camera units, our focus was on achieving the highest image quality.
2. Elegant design
・For the exterior, we utilized die cast magnesium, which has a strong track record in the GR series, and we covered the surface with a corrosion-resistant "pear-skin" coating. The end result is a body with superior levels of durability, light weight, and feel in hand.
・Building on the operation control designs of the GR series and GX series, the GXR has several types of customizable buttons as well as the new DIRECT button, which the photographer can use to see many current settings at a glance. Sophisticated shooting settings can now be made faster than ever before.
・The directional pad, the three My Settings, the ADJ.lever, and the function buttons all contribute to the even greater operability achieved by the GXR.
・The grip form allows the GXR to be firmly held despite its small size, and the suitably yielding rubber material on the grip surface enables the camera to feel like an integral part of the hand.
3. Even greater power of expression
・The automatic exposure modes include program shift mode, shutter priority mode, and aperture priority mode.
・Picture settings can be customized with nine setting levels for easy creation of a diverse range of images.
・ISO3200 facilitates shooting in low light conditions.
4. Enhanced rapid shooting capabilities help capture fleeting shutter chances
・The Pre-AF function accelerates focusing speed by adjusting the focus to match subject movement.
・The full press snap function shoots at a preset distance for a one-push full-press of the shutter-release button.
・When shooting subjects up close, the camera automatically switches to macro mode so macro photography can now be enjoyed without having to worry about switching modes.(Auto macro setting)
5. High-definition 3.0-inch 920,000-dot VGA LCD picture display
・The high-resolution LCD picture display provides a wide viewing angle and high contrast. The screen has a fluorine coat to prevent soiling, a hard coat to prevent scratches, and an anti-reflection coat to give excellent visibility even outdoors in bright sunshine.
・With 100% sRGB coverage for color reproduction, the picture display vividly reproduces image colors.
6. Wide range of functions
・Tilt indicator utilizing an acceleration sensor.
・Three grid guides useful for framing images while shooting.
・Image flag function to enable the quick display of specific images from among those in the camera. Up to 20 images can be flagged.
・The new DIRECT screen enabling current settings to be displayed and changed.
7. Features of the GR LENS A12 50 mm F2.5 MACRO camera unit
・This camera unit uses a 23.6 mm×15.7 mm (APS-C size) CMOS sensor with approximately 12.30 megapixels. In combination with image processing engine GR ENGINE III, it achieves high-image-quality photography with high definition, low noise, and smooth tonal gradations.
・A newly developed GR LENS with an 8-group, 9-element configuration (aspherical lens: 1 element, two surfaces) is featured. Representing a further advancement in the GR tradition of high image quality, the lens thoroughly corrects for various types of aberrations. Despite the compact size, it is also a full-fledged macro lens with a floating lens structure. At shooting distances from infinity down to the 1/2x maximum magnification macro range, it achieves strong imaging power all the way to the edge of the frame. In addition, the low level of vignetting means that the photographer can enjoy rich and genuine bokeh effects.
・The manual focus ring is perfect for use in macro photography as it makes highly precise focusing possible. It can also be used to make fine manual adjustments to the focus after autofocus is done.
8. Features of the RICOH LENS S10 24-72 mm F2.5-4.4 VC camera unit
・This camera unit uses a 10.00 megapixel 1/1.7-inch CCD sensor boasting high-sensitivity capabilities enhanced through the adoption of an new process. In combination with advanced image processing engine Smooth Imaging Engine IV, it achieves high-image-quality photography with high definition and low noise.
・The lens is a 24 mm to 72 mm high-performance 3x wide-angle zoom with superior usability. Utilizing a 7-group, 11-element configuration (aspherical lens: 4 elements, 4 surfaces) that includes special low-dispersion lenses, this lens achieves high dimensions of both compactness and imaging power.
・A camera shake correction function (image-sensor-shift type) is used to reduce hand- motion blur.
・The self-retaining lens cap has been a popular GX series option, and a GXR version is available as option LC-2.
9. New options enhance series expandability
・Two soft cases, one for each camera unit.
・The GXR can use the GR DIGITAL III external flash (GF-1), which can do TTL flash using auxiliary flash.
・Convenient for shooting in bright outdoor situations, the newly developed 920,000-dot- equivalent high-definition LCD viewfinder is removable and can be tilted up to 90 degrees. With a 100% field of view, it displays information in the same way as the picture display, thus enabling the photographer to shoot in a film camera style.
10. Functions expanded using firmware
・Function-enhancing
firmware releases for the GR DIGITAL series have proved very popular,
and this practice will be continued for the GXR. By updating their
firmware, GXR owners will be able to use the latest functions.

JVC Releases Their First Pocket Cam

PICSIO shoots true eight-megapixel stills and 1080p Full HD video for outstanding results even when viewed on an HDTV. Further enhancing the quality of PICSIO's video is image stabilization that minimizes camera shake, even when the 4X digital zoom is used. The camera is about the size of a small cell phone, and is available in three colors - Black Ice, Blue Steel and Purple Passion. It boasts a stylish design with a case that features a tone-on-tone geometric pattern and chrome accents for a jewel-like appearance.
PICSIO's high quality images result from the use of an eight-megapixel CMOS image sensor that captures JPEG stills with up to eight-megapixel native resolution - there's no image-degrading interpolation, so PICSIO images are sharp and vibrant, whether viewed on a screen or printed. In video mode, PICSIO records 1080p Full HD video that's easily enjoyed on an HDTV by using the camera's HDMI connection. Videos are recorded in the widely-used MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format and stored as .MOV files for easy sharing without the need for time-consuming and potentially damaging conversion. Storage is on readily-available SD/SDHC memory cards.
To suit individual shooting situations, PICSIO provides four video and still recording modes:

Ease-of-use was a top priority in designing PICSIO, so instead of lengthy menus to scroll through, functions are easily selected directly using logically placed dedicated buttons. Power (on/off), playback, delete, video/still mode switching, and thumbnail display mode all have their own individual buttons. A four-way controller positioned in the middle controls zoom (by pressing up/down), still image viewing (by pressing left/right), and record start/stop (the center button). The large, two-inch LCD also makes shooting easy.
Connectors include HDMI™ out (Mini), AV out and USB 2.0/1.1. The camera charges via USB connection, so it automatically charges whenever connected to a PC and not transferring files. USB cable, AV cable, hand strap and PC software - loaded into the camera's internal memory - are included with the camera.
PICSIO Feature Highlights:
- Stylish Pocket-Fitting Design in Choice of Colors
- "Menu-less" Simple & Easy Operation
- Direct Sending to iTunes®/YouTube™ (.MOV file)
- Image Stabilizer
- 8 Megapixel Still Image Recording
- 1080P/30fps HD Video Recording
- 4x Digital Zoom
- Convenient USB Battery Charging
- HDMI™ and AV Output Terminal

New Samsung HZ25W "Mega-Zoom" Announced
SAMSUNG GOES LONG WITH NEW 24x OPTICAL ZOOM HZ25W
Samsung HZ25W Impresses With 24x Mega-Zoom, Full Manual Control and RAW Support
RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. - September 3, 2009 - Samsung Electronics America, Inc. today unveiled the HZ25W, a 12.5 mega-pixel point-and-shoot outfitted with the most powerful lens ever offered on a Samsung compact digital camera. Joining the company's advanced HZ Series, the HZ25W's high-performance Schneider-KREUZNACH lens offers an impressive 24x optical zoom with a 26mm wide-angle focal length (35mm film equivalent focal range of 26mm-624mm), which can be used for shooting high-quality digital still images as well as recording 720p HD video in H.264 format.
"Photographers of all skill levels are going to be drawn to the HZ25W's features," said Reid Sullivan, senior vice president of audio/video and digital imaging marketing at Samsung Electronics America. "The versatility of the lens gives any user, whether you're a soccer mom on the sidelines or an enthusiast looking to create a stunning image, the ability to be prepared for just about any shooting scenario. Serious shooters will gravitate toward the HZ25W's aperture and shutter priority modes as well as full manual control and RAW support. For the entry-level shooter, Samsung's Smart Auto takes simplicity to a new level, ensuring a great shot every time without having to be concerned about camera settings."
The HZ25W puts high-definition video recording in the palm of users' hands. The camera can record 720p HD video using H.264 compression, an advanced codec that allows users to record video for longer periods of time. For added versatility, users can zoom in and out while recording video, taking full advantage of both the camera's 26mm wide-angle focal length and 24x optical zoom.
The HZ25W's 24x optical zoom, 26mm wide‑angle lens is supported
by Samsung's Dual Image Stabilization, which combines both optical and
digital stabilization to help reduce blur, especially when using the
lens at its maximum zoom. The HZ25W also provides aperture and shutter
priority and a full manual shooting mode for those users looking to
exercise more control over camera settings. Additional manual controls
include the ability to customize white balance settings from a
temperature range of 3,000K to 10,000K as well as manual focusing.
Users have the option to shoot in RAW (DNG1.1), JPEGs, or both right on
the camera.

Users can frame their images using the HZ25W's color electronic viewfinder (EVF) or three-inch LCD screen, which also grants access to the camera's user interface. The HZ25W also features an easy-to-use Smart dial, which provides effortless navigation through the camera's menu and simplifies the way users select various settings and review their images.
The new HZ25W also incorporates Samsung's latest suite of intuitive and smart technologies which simplify how users take and view their photos, including Smart Auto. An advanced shooting mode which analyzes the current environment, Smart Auto will automatically choose from one of 11 optimized settings to produce the best possible image. After pictures are taken, users can easily search for a specific image they have saved on their memory card using the HZ25W's Smart Album feature. Smart Album automatically organizes the user's digital images and gives them the ability to narrow their search based on specific criteria such as the date or week the image was taken, the overall color tone, portraits or specific file types, including photos, videos, or voice memos.
Samsung's Perfect Portrait System, which includes Face Recognition, Face Detection, Smile Shot, Blink Detection and Samsung's Beauty Shot, can also be found on the HZ25W. One of the most advanced on the market, Samsung's Face Recognition technology automatically stores up to 20 preferred faces to the cameras' internal memory. While taking a portrait, the HZ25W will automatically recognize if one of the user's 20 preferred faces is in the frame and identify them as a priority for focus and exposure. Users can also save time sorting through their photos and instead search for photos that contain a specific face.

Steve's Digicams - Breaking News - Panasonic 3/03/2009 Press Releases

Press Release - March 3, 2009
PANASONIC CONTINUES ITS DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY REVOLUTION WITH THE ADDITION OF THE LUMIX GH1 -- ITS NEW MICRO FOUR THIRDS DIGITAL CAMERA WITH HD RECORDING CAPABILITYThe Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GH1, a Creative HD Hybrid, Offers Professional-Level Still Photos and HD Video Performance Yet is Easy Enough for Entry-Level DSLR Consumers![]() Las Vegas, NV (March 3, 2009) -- Panasonic today introduced the DMC-GH1, the newest member of the company's revolutionary LUMIX G Micro System -- a new digital interchangeable lens camera system that delivers professional-level features and performance in a compact and easy-to-use camera body. Compatible with the Micro Four Thirds System standard, the new LUMIX GH1 features advanced video photography functions, such as the ability to record High Definition (HD) AVCHD 1080p/24p video.* In addition, the new LUMIX GH1 comes with a newly developed long-zoom interchangeable lens -- the LUMIX G VARIO HD 14-140mm/F4.0-5.8 ASPH./MEGA O.I.S. This lens was specifically designed to support HD movie recording and features a silent motor and continuous auto focusing (AF) capability; two features which distinguish the LUMIX GH1 from DSLRs that offer HD video recording capabilities. "Photographers of all levels -- professionals, amateurs and beginners -- will be stunned by the range of creative possibilities that the LUMIX GH1 creates in the world of high-quality photography and HD video. Users will be equally amazed by the camera's easy-to-use design and small size," said David Briganti, National Marketing Manager, Imaging, Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company. "Beyond its creative potential, the LUMIX GH1, a sister product to the award-winning LUMIX GH1, is also innovative and differentiates itself from the pack by recording High Definition video with continuous AF, an indispensable feature for practical video recording." In late 2008, Panasonic redefined the traditional DSLR category with its launch of the Panasonic LUMIX GH1 -- a digital, interchangeable lens camera system that takes the radical step of eliminating the large, internal mirror structure that is currently contained in all traditional DSLR cameras. This innovation allows for dramatically smaller camera body and lens sizes and permits many new, advanced consumer features such as LUMIX GH1 "Live View Finder". With its 2008 launch, the LUMIX GH1 achieved several honors, including: World's first entry into the Micro Four Thirds Standard system camera segment World's first interchangeable lens camera to offer colored body options to consumers Winner, 2008 Camera of the Year (Popular Photography & Imaging magazine) The new LUMIX GH1 provides cutting-edge video recording features, including the ability to record high-resolution full HD (1920 x 1080) video at 24 fps or smooth HD video (1280 x 720) movie at 60 fps using an AVCHD format (MPEG-4/H.264). The AVCHD format provides the important benefit of doubling the HD quality recording time compared with Motion JPEG. The LUMIX GH1 hosts a dedicated video record button on the back of the camera which lets users instantly start recording videos, even while shooting still photos -- removing the fear of potentially missing a must-see video moment. The LUMIX GH1 also records video in high-quality stereo sound via Dolby Digital Stereo Creator, the global standard of audio recording. An optional stereo microphone (DMW-MS1) is also available to achieve a more intensive sound recording experience. Finally, a convenient Wind Cut function is provided to help to block out distracting video background noise. Like the LUMIX GH1, the LUMIX GH1 features the Live View Finder system which enables something that simply is not possible with conventional DSLR cameras -- the ability to preview the effects of camera settings (e.g., exposure, aperture, shutter speed) before taking the photo. This helps take the guesswork out of the camera setting process and helps users ensure that every photo they capture comes out exactly as they envisioned. ![]() The brilliant 1,440,000-dot equivalent Live View Finder system can also display information settings that a user can see without removing their eyes from the subject. Furthermore, a built-in eye sensor automatically switches on the viewfinder when the user looks into it, then switches it off and turns on the swivel 3.0-inch large 460,000-dot high-resolution LCD when the user looks away from the viewfinder. The 60-frames-per-second Live View is made possible by the Live MOS sensor, which takes real-time signals directly from the image sensor and sends them continuously to the LCD. Both the Live View Finder and LCD provide a 100% field of view -- allowing the user to accurately frame and compose a shot from most any position. The LUMIX GH1 kit lens -- the LUMIX G VARIO HD 14-140mm/F4.0-5.8 ASPH./MEGA O.I.S. --provides a broad focal length range of 28-280mm (35mm camera equivalent) and supports continuous AF using the contrast AF system for both photo and movie capture. The low-noise lens design also seamlessly supports video recording by minimizing the mechanical sound generated by AF/AE actions. At the core of the LUMIX GH1 lies a newly developed 12.1-megapixel high speed Live MOS sensor and Venus Engine HD, which features twin CPUs for outstanding processing capabilities. The Live MOS sensor is capable of high-speed readout over four channels to be compatible with full-HD movie recording. This sensor is also advantageous for photo recording with a high signal-to-noise ratio thanks to the new circuit structure that is unaffected by the noise generated in each of the circuits. This results in crisp photos -- even those taken at high ISO levels. The multi-aspect type sensor allows users to take photos in 4:3, 3:2 or 16:9 aspect ratios with the same angle of view. The Venus Engine HD is also energy efficient, supporting long periods of AVCHD video recording on a single battery charge. In addition to the digital camera's HD video recording capability, the DMC-GH1 features the LUMIX Creative Movie mode which lets the user manually set the shutter speed and aperture, making their videos more creative and representative of their own personal video style preference. Changing the shutter speed gives the videos a special look, particularly suitable for shooting fast-moving subjects. Controlling the aperture is convenient when there are several subjects at varying distances, so the user can focus on the foreground and blur the background -- or vice versa. While the LUMIX DMC-GH1 has cutting-edge still image and video capture features, the LUMIX GH1 is also incredibly easy-to-use, thanks to Panasonic's iA (Intelligent Auto) mode** -- a user-friendly setting made popular in the LUMIX line of digital point-and-shoot camera products. Panasonic's iA mode is a suite of technologies which engage automatically (no settings needed). The latest addition to the iA suite of features is Face Recognition, a feature that directs the camera to prioritize focus and exposure on a specific face that that the user had previously registered in the camera.*** This invaluable function makes it especially easy to take sharp and beautifully exposed images of things the user values most in their photos -- the user's friends and family. Panasonic's iA mode offers other innovative features which help deliver consistently outstanding photos: O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilization) to help reduce blurring from hand-shake; Intelligent ISO Control to help limit motion blur by adjusting the ISO sensitivity if the subject moves as the shot is taken; AF Tracking that lets the camera lock onto any subject and keep it in focus even if it moves; Intelligent Exposure which optimizes the exposure for each part of an image, preventing blocked shadows and blown highlights, and helps ensure that gradation and details are reproduced beautifully; and Intelligent Scene Selector which automatically detects the five most common shooting situations - Portrait, Night Portrait, Scenery, Night Scenery and Close-up - and switches to the appropriate Scene mode. Best of all, the benefits of Panasonic's iA mode extend to motion image recording on the DMC-GH1. For example, the LUMIX GH1 motion iA includes O.I.S. and Face Detection, which automatically detects a face in the frame and adjusts focus, exposure, contrast, and skin complexion. Intelligent Exposure continually checks the ambient light level and adjusts the exposure setting as conditions change to prevent blown highlights and blocked shadows. Intelligent Scene Selector automatically switches between Normal, Portrait, Close-up, Scenery, and Low Light modes according to the environment. The Contrast AF system adopted by the LUMIX GH1 is accurate, easy-to-use and fast. Users can choose from a wide range of AF modes, including multiple-area AF with up to 23 focus areas, 1-area AF with a selectable focus area, Face Detection, and AF Tracking. To help keep the images free of spots from dust and particles, the Supersonic Wave Filter dust reduction system helps prevent foreign contaminants from adhering to the image sensor. ![]() After users capture their images using the LUMIX GH1, it's easy for them to enjoy their photos or HD videos immediately on a large-screen Panasonic VIERA high-definition television. All that is required is to remove the SD Memory Card from the LUMIX GH1 and insert it into the VIERA Image Viewer (SDHC/SD Memory Card slot) located in the VIERA HDTV or in the Panasonic Blu-ray disc player. Alternatively, an optional mini HDMI cable is available to output the images from the LUMIX GH1 directly to the Panasonic HDTV via VIERA Link. Then, using the VIERA HDTV's remote control, users can take advantage of the LUMIX GH1's advanced playback and slideshow features. In addition to the new LUMIX G lenses, the DMC-GH1 and LUMIX G Micro System is compatible with any interchangeable lens that complies with the Four Thirds standard.**** This gives users access to the entire range of Four Thirds lenses. Additional Micro Four Thirds lenses will be announced in the future, giving users a large, diverse line of high-performance lenses to add to their photographic toolboxes. With the LUMIX G Micro System and the growing assortment of lenses becoming available, the creative possibilities are endless. The LUMIX DMC-GH1 is a system camera with a wide variety of options to choose from to match a wide range of shooting situations and styles. Accessories compatible with the LUMIX G Micro System include: External Flash: DMW-FL220(GN22) / DMW-FL360(GN36) / DMW-FL500(GN50); PL Filter: DMW-LPL62; ND Filter: DMW-LND62 (New); MC Protector: DMW-LMCH62; Mount Adapter: DMW-MA1; Stereo Microphone: DMW-MS1 (New); Battery Pack: DMW-BLB13; DC Cable: DMW-DCC3; Soft Cases: DMW-CGH1, DMW-CG2 (New); Soft Bag: DMW-BAGH1; Shoulder Strap (Stylish) DMW-SSTGH1-A/C/R/K(New); Shoulder Strap (Woven) DMW-SSTG2-W; Shoulder Strap (Leather) DMW-SSTG3-T; Remote Shutter: DMW-RSL1. Steve's Digicams - Breaking News - Sony 3/2/2009 Press Release

Press Release - March 2, 2009
SONY PRESENTS FIRST CYBER-SHOT CAMERA WITH SWEEP PANORAMA TECHNOLOGY![]() LAS VEGAS (PMA #F171), March 2, 2009 - Sony is spotlighting its first digital still camera to feature sweep panorama technology here at the Photo Marketing Association confab. The new HX1 Cyber-shot model can take 224-degree panorama shots in one easy press-and-sweep motion. It is also the company's first Cyber-shot camera to use the exclusive 1/2.4-inch Exmor CMOS sensor technology. This technology allows it to achieve burst speeds of 10 frames per second at full 9.1 megapixel resolution in continuous burst mode. Setting it apart from most digital still cameras, which use an electronic shutter to achieve high speed, the HX1 unit has a mechanical shutter that helps reduce distortion when shooting a moving subject. Compared to images shot with traditional sensors, the HX1 model takes clearer images with about 50 percent less noise when in handheld twilight or anti-blur modes. It is also the first Cyber-shot camera include a Sony G lens and 1080p HD movie clip recording capabilities. "Traditional CMOS sensor technology provides higher shutter speeds, but we are using what we call an Image3 system that combines the best image, sensor and processor," said Karim Noblecilla, senior product marketing manager in Sony Electronics' Digital Imaging Division. "By combining this sensor with a high-quality Sony G lens and powerful BIONZ processor, we are able to create solutions beyond fast speed that helps consumers get better pictures." Incorporating on-chip A/D conversion, which minimizes image degradation that can occur during analogue processing, Noblecilla said the Exmor CMOS sensor delivers outstanding images, reduces noise and can continuously shoot at a high speeds. Compared to cameras with traditional sensors, the HX1 model has two scene modes that significantly reduce noise. Using the high-speed shutter Exmor CMOS sensor technology, the new model takes six shots within a fraction of a second. Combined with the power of the BIONZ imaging processor, it immediately superimposes them into one picture. The camera calculates the position of objects in each frame and composes the sharpest picture possible, resulting in clearer, sharper images. The two modes that use this functionality include hand-held twilight and anti-motion blur. For difficult shots in low light, the hand-held twilight mode results in clearer and sharper pictures without the need of a tripod. Anti-motion blur uses High ISO to reduce blur especially in dimly lit environments. To reduce blur, the camera detects if a person or object is moving, or if the camera is shaking, which is likely when taking a telephoto shot. When it superimposes the images, the camera captures the moving subject or object from one of the six shots. It takes, combines and composes the rest of the image using the six shots. This reduces blur on the main subject and results in a sharp, clear background. Sweep Panorama Technology ![]() Capturing wide landscapes, church spires or skyscrapers is as easy as "press and sweep." Sweep panorama mode lets you reach beyond the traditional wide-angle lens and capture breathtaking shots. With wide and ultra-wide settings and horizontal or vertical directions, sweep panorama mode can take up to 224-degree horizontal or 154-degree vertical shots. Using the fast-speed Exmor CMOS sensor, the camera continuously shoots full-resolution images at a high speed. Using the BIONZ imaging processor, it automatically stitches the pictures together to create one stunning panoramic photo. The maximum resolution is 7152 x 1080 (ultra wide horizontal). "This panorama mode is so seamless that it removes the guess work," Noblecilla said. "The camera indicates where you are in the degree range, so you know how wide you can shoot and stitches the photos automatically. It calculates and aligns pictures for you without using additional software." ![]() The HX1 camera captures movie clips in 1080p HD resolution, and a built-in stereo microphone records crisp, clear audio. The camera's wide 20x optical zoom is also available while shooting. When set to HD movie, it records at 30 frames per second (1440 x 1080). The camera uses the high-quality, high-compression MPEG4 AVC/H.264 format. Other recording options include standard-definition video and VGA. The camera also has HDMI connectivity via supplied HDMI accessory (cable not included) so images can be shared in high definition on an HD television set. MPEG4 AVC video recording allows you to view footage on a PC and upload it to the Web. ![]() The Sony G lens is optimized to complement the advanced image sensors and image processing technology in Sony's cameras. The HX1 camera features a 28-560 millimeter f/2.8-5.2 wide-angle lens with 20x telephoto range. With the combination of this G lens and sweep panorama mode, the camera can cover almost any telephoto and wide angle need. Containing a six-blade aperture, the G lens produces beautifully defocused backgrounds with a soft, natural feel. A-spherical lens elements and elements made from extra-low dispersion glass combine to minimize chromatic aberration common to high-magnification lenses. Intelligent Auto Like many of Sony's new cameras this year, the HX1 model has the convenient and powerful intelligent auto mode, which combines Intelligent Scene Recognition (iSCN), Optical SteadyShot and face detection technologies. It recognizes scenes and lighting conditions within one-thirtieth of a second, and then changes settings. This produces clearer images with more natural skin tones, reduced red-eye, fewer closed-eye shots and less overall blur without compromising image quality. The iSCN feature detects up to eight scenes and automatically changes settings that will apply to the scene or lighting conditions. With the iSCN Advance feature, the camera takes a second shot when low or backlight is detected, letting users choose the best picture. With face detection technology, the camera will adjust the flash, focus, exposure and white balance producing more natural skin tones and reducing red-eye. Face motion detection identifies a moving subject and adjusts the ISO to minimize blur. In conjunction with iSCN, the camera takes two pictures simultaneously and saves the one in which the eyes are the least closed. A new selected-face memory function registers one face (selected by the user) as the main face and adjusts focus, exposure, flash and white balance accordingly. The camera remembers the face every time that face shows in the frame. Additionally, the camera comes with Smile Shutter technology that helps capture a smile the moment it happens and dynamic range optimizer (DRO) technology that adjusts for contrast. Pricing and Availability The Cyber-shot DSC-HX1 camera will be available in April for about and pre-sales will start in March. The camera and a range of accessories will be available online at sonystyle.com, at Sony Style retail stores (www.sonystyle.com/retail), at military base exchanges and at authorized dealers nationwide. |

SAMSUNG'S NX SERIES, HYBRID DIGITAL CAMERAS MAKE GLOBAL DEBUT AT PMA 2009NX Series Offers APS-C Image Sensor, Bridges Gap Between Compact Digital Cameras and DSLRs![]() SEOUL, KOREA - March 2, 2009 - Samsung Digital Imaging Co., Ltd. used PMA 2009 as the global launching pad for the NX Series, the company's revolutionary new family of hybrid digital cameras. A new concept digital camera, the NX Series offers the performance and image quality of a DSLR and the portability and convenience of a compact point-and-shoot. With the NX Series, Samsung will become a global leader in the new hybrid market. Samsung's new NX Series bridges the gap between a DSLR and compact point-and-shoot digital camera by combining the benefits of both in one new model. Like conventional DSLRs, the NX Series utilizes an APS-C sized image sensor providing a much larger surface area to gather light and produce higher-quality images than comparable digital camera systems. Unlike a DSLR, the NX Series does not feature a mirror box and employs an ultra-precise Electronic Viewfinder (EVF). The use of an EVF has allowed Samsung engineers to significantly reduce the size and weight of the new camera system by decreasing the distance between the lens and image sensor (flange back) by approximately 60% compared to traditional DSLRs. In addition to utilizing the EVF, consumers can also take advantage of the camera's Live View functionality to frame their shots on the NX Series' high‑resolution screen. ![]() Samsung has recently intensified its focus on the digital imaging market and established a separate company dedicated exclusively to digital imaging in Samsung Digital Imaging Company. The new company was formed to focus on the development of its digital still cameras around world's first and best in class features, design, and easy-to-use interfaces, and will work towards achieving the company's stated goal of becoming the world's leading digital imaging company. "We estimate that the hybrid digital camera market will be over 20% of the global digital still camera market by 2012," said Sang-jin Park, CEO of Samsung Digital Imaging Company. "With the release of the NX Series, a digital camera that combines the strengths of a DSLR and compact digital camera, Samsung Digital Imaging will become a global leader in the new hybrid digital camera market and achieve the company's goal to become the global leader in the digital camera market by 2012." Samsung Digital Imaging Company also creates a much more efficient vertical alignment between related Samsung affiliate business units including semiconductor, LCD panel and consumer electronics. This new vertical alignment will create competitive advantages for Samsung by fostering greater collaboration between Samsung affiliate business units and allowing the company to develop and deliver highly-innovative digital imaging products that set the standard for the industry, including the newly unveiled NX Series. The first model of NX Series will be available in the second-half of 2009. About Samsung Digital Imaging About Samsung Electronics America, Inc. |

SAMSUNG INTRODUCES PAIR OF 12 MEGA-PIXEL, 24MM ULTRA-WIDE ANGLE COMPACT DIGITAL CAMERASNew TL320 Boasts Three-Inch AMOLED for Enhanced Viewing and Energy Efficiency HZ15W Offers 12 Mega-Pixel Resolution and 24mm, 10x Optical Zoom Schneider Lens![]() RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. - February 23, 2009 - Samsung Electronics America today unveiled two new 12 mega-pixel compact digital cameras boasting 24mm ultra-wide angle Schneider lenses. Samsung's new TL320 raises the bar for innovation in the digital imaging industry as it is the world's first digital camera to feature a three-inch AMOLED screen with HVGA resolution. The new HZ15W, Samsung's second mega-zoom, point-and-shoot digital camera, offers consumers one of the most powerful lenses on a compact point-and-shoot with an impressive focal length of 24-240mm (35mm film equivalent). The TL320The new TL320 goes above and beyond traditional compact point-and-shoot digital cameras, offering an impressive list of features that set the camera apart from the competition. The TL320 features a Schneider lens, renowned for quality and trusted by professionals worldwide, and offers consumers a more versatile 24mm ultra-wide angle focal length paired with a powerful 5x optical zoom. Utilizing the same advanced technologies found in its revolutionary AMOLED televisions, Samsung was able to incorporate a three-inch, 460,000-dot HVGA AMOLED screen in the new TL320, the largest AMOLED screen on a digital camera to date. In comparison to a traditional TFT-LCD screen, the TL320's AMOLED consumes less power and offers a higher contrast ratio of 10,000:1, producing darker black levels, more vibrant colors, and a brighter display which can easily be viewed outdoors and even in direct sunlight. Additionally, unlike a TFT-LCD, the TL320's AMOLED screen has the ability to display images that can be reviewed at any angle, while fully maintaining the same color gamut. Samsung's new TL320 also offers advanced high-definition video recording at a resolution of 720p, as well as HDMI connectivity through the use of a cradle to view one's video and photos in HD clarity on an HDTV. The camera's 5x optical zoom can be used while recording, and because the camera utilizes H.264 compression (a codec for high-definition video that yields three times the recording length than that of MJPEG video) users can record HD video for longer periods of time with the TL320. For added stability and blur-free images, Samsung has outfitted the TL320 with both Optical and Digital Image Stabilization. The shooter has the option of simply using Optical Image Stabilization or choosing Dual Image Stabilization, combining the strengths of Optical and Digital Image Stabilization. ![]() For the more advanced user who prefers to have more control over camera settings, the TL320 offers aperture priority, shutter priority, full manual shooting, as well as Samsung's unique Advanced Picture Mode. Much more precise than simple white balance presets, Advanced Picture Mode gives users the ability to fine tune color tones before image capture by adjusting the color temperature from 2,800-10,000K, in 100K increments, or by manually configuring the camera's color space shift. For users looking for simplicity when it comes to taking digital images, the TL320 offers a comprehensive suite of automatic controls designed to help them capture better images with ease, including the camera's Smart Auto mode. When selected, Smart Auto will automatically choose from one of the TL320's 11 scene modes, determining which best suits the environment the user may be shooting in. For example, the TL320's Smart Auto feature will automatically set the camera to its Landscape scene mode if the user is taking an image of a mountain range, and then switch gears and automatically select the Portrait scene mode if the user proceeds to take an image of an individual. No manual interaction is required. In addition to Smart Auto, the TL320 also incorporates Samsung's proprietary Smart Album program. Smart Album is useful tool which allows users to easily search for a specific image they have saved on their memory card. Smart Album automatically organizes the user's digital images and gives them the ability to narrow their search based on specific criteria. Users can quickly sort by the date or week the image was taken, the overall color tone, as well as whether they're searching for portraits or specific file types, including photos, videos, or voice memos. Users can also take advantage of the TL320's Face Detection, Blink Detection, Smile Shot, and Beauty Shot technologies. Designed to help capture better portraits and group shots of family and friends, Face Detection technology detects up to nine faces and automatically adjusts focus and exposure to ensure better composition and image quality. Smile Shot automatically triggers the TL320 to take a photo only when the camera detects smiles on the subjects' faces, and Blink Detection will automatically fire two consecutive shots if the camera detects that a subject's eyes are closed. Beauty Shot is a unique functionality which will automatically enhance and balance skin tones as well as remove blemishes. Featuring a brushed stainless steel finish, the TL320 is as stylish as it is advanced. The camera offers a compact form factor highlighted by two analog dials found on top of the TL320's body. The two dials give the TL320 a retro look and provide users with the ability to quickly glance down at the camera for an approximate readout of remaining battery life and memory capacity. ![]() The HZ15WThe step up model from the HZ10W introduced in January at CES 2009, the 12 mega-pixel HZ15W offers consumers one of the most powerful lenses on a compact point-and-shoot digital camera, featuring a 24mm ultra-wide angle Schneider lens coupled with a generous 10x optical zoom. For blur-free images, especially when using the HZ15W at its maximum zoom, Samsung includes both Optical and Digital Image Stabilization. Optical Image Stabilization can be used independently or shooters can choose Dual Image Stabilization, which combines the strengths of Optical and Digital Image Stabilization. Like the HZ10W, the HZ15W puts high-definition video recording in the palm of users' hands. With the HZ15W, consumers have the ability to record high-definition video at a resolution of 720p, and utilize the camera's full 10x optical zoom. Samsung also incorporates H.264 compression and offers consumers true HDMI connectivity, which allows the camera to be connected directly to an HDTV without the need for a cradle. Additionally, the HZ15W's ultra-clear, three-inch LCD screen is sure to turn heads and gives consumers the ability to easily frame their shots and review their images and video in any condition, even in direct sunlight. Designed for a range of consumers, including entry-level photographers and advanced amateurs, the HZ15W offers a variety of shooting modes, including Manual. The camera's Manual shooting mode allows users to manually configure settings such as shutter speed, aperture, exposure, and ISO values. Similar to the TL320, the HZ15W also features a highly-intuitive suite of automatic controls designed to help improve one's ability to take great digital images. The camera's advanced automatic shooting options include Face Detection, Smile Shot, Blink Detection, Beauty Shot, as well as Smart Auto, which automatically selects the appropriate scene mode for the user, and Smart Album, which simplifies the process of searching for an image saved on a memory card.
