Photographer's Note

We visited the National Elk Refuge outside of Jackson Hole Wyoming during the off season when entire 13 mile dirt road was open so we were able to drive through the picturesque refuge. While driving back from the end of the road, my wife spotted a coyote walking toward the road. It was about 100 yards out when she spotted it and I lined our car up with it's path. The refuge is hilly and as it approached it descended out of sight. I told my wife and son to wait quietly as it would appear at the top of the ridge next to the road in about a minute. This image was taken just as it topped the hill. Morris Bennett Altman
