The newest lens from Carl Zeiss is now available for preorder, expanding the ZE series of lenses.  It's an impressive lens, if reviews are to be the judge, and offers top of the line photo quality.

Close-up macro shots are the specialty of the new lens, and focusing precision is the key.  "Whether capturing an insect resting on a flower or the dampness on a piece of fruit," says Zeiss "these lenses allow a degree of sharpness that was hitherto impossible."

The lens takes advantage of Carl Zeiss's "floating elements" design, which allows for high optical performance across an entire shooting range.  It's got a solid build, like all Zeiss lenses.

The aperture range of the new Makr-Planar 2/100 ZE is f/2 - f/22 in half steps.  It's got a focusing range from .44m to infinity, and an image ratio (at close range) of 1:2. The new Zeiss lens is moderate in length at 76mm long, but it's a bit heavy for its size, weighing in at 680g.

The ZE 100mm f/2 Makro-Planar Lens will be available at the beginning of February at a price of $1,843.
