You Don't Need a Better Camera to Take Better Pictures
A lot of people fall into a common way of thinking. They assume that the reason their pictures aren't turning out as well as they could is because they don't have a great camera. Sure, better cameras do have more capabilities, but they won't turn a badly lit photograph into a well lit photograph.
A perfect example comes from Lee Morris of Fstoppers, who used an iPhone 3GS and a professional lighting rig to capture some stunning images. Without telling anyone the source, he posted the images up for a critique.
"I couldn't help but laugh," writes Lee, "when a few of our readers claimed that these were "the best images I had ever taken." Nobody ever claimed that they were too grainy, too soft, or lacked detail."
Lee says that he concocted this experiment to prove that it's not just the camera that makes a good picture, but the skill of the photographer and, of course, proper lighting.
So next time you're thinking of upgrading, consider looking at some lighting options, a new lens, or even a photography workshop before taking the plunge into a brand new camera.
