Weather Sealing Pays Off With a Mud Covered Nikon D3

Nikon D3.pngPhotographer JP Carino had a tremendous day of shooting water birds. He typically uses a floating blind - think of it as a camouflaged raft - to get up close and shoot the birds, but the water level was so low that he had to get down and crawl in the mud.

The result is a Nikon D3 completely covered in mud. In fact, Carino's camera became so mud covered that he was unable to see the screen. "I was constantly pouring water on the LCD to take away the mud so I can view my photos," he says.

The amazing thing is that, despite being completely covered in mud and splashed with water to clean it, the Nikon D3 is completely functional.

"After the shoot I cleaned the camera and placed it in my dry cabinet," says Carino. "It still works flawlessly: all seals worked, not a single grime inside the camera."
