Toshiba and Trek are Prepping WiFi SD Cards

It's about time someone else jumped on this.  Eye-Fi has been working with WiFi enabled SD cards for three years now with no competition and a good deal of support from camera manufacturers.  But they won't be alone for long.

Toshiba and the Singapore based memory company Trek have teamed to create a WiFi capable SDHC card, and are launching an industry forum to get camera manufacturers on board with promoting the technology.

Toshiba's new card sports 8GB of onboard memory and is compatible with both 802.11b and 802.11g wireless standards.  Unlike the latest Eye-Fi cards, there's no word on whether hotspots will be supported.

There's no word on a release date or pricing yet, but you can expect to see plenty of information later this year.
