Toshiba Introduces Single-Cell 128Mb NAND Components

IRVINE, Calif.--Dec. 13, 1999-- Toshiba America Electronic Components Inc. (TAEC) Monday announced the development of its 0.25-micron (um) 128 megabit (Mb) NAND flash components. The introduction of this single-level cell, monolithic device further strengthens Toshiba's family of flash memory devices by enabling seamless migration to higher density devices due to packaging compatibility with the company's current offering of single-level cell 256Mb and 512Mb devices introduced earlier this year.

Toshiba is offering the TC58128DC, which features SmartMedia(TM) packaging and provides 16 megabytes (MB) of removable storage. Identical page and block specifications are used, making the new SmartMedia devices fully compatible with existing products. Both devices operate at a 3.3 volt (V) single power supply, which meets the low-power requirements of portable equipment.

Samples of Toshiba's TC58128FT 128Mb TSOP device and the TC58128DC 16MB SmartMedia device, are available now priced at and , respectively. Production quantities will be available in Q1 '00, and production pricing will be available at that time. Toshiba now offers SmartMedia in 4MB, 8MB, 16MB, 32MB and 64MB densities.
