Tokina Announces Opera 16-28mm F2.8 FF Lens for Canon EF & Nikon F Mounts

Pre-orders are now live for Tokina's latest lens. The new Opera 16-28mm F2.8 FF Lens (MSRP of $699) will be available for Canon EF mount and Nikon F mount cameras. Shipments are expected to launch on March 15.

Joining the previously released Opera 50mm F1.4 FF, the Opera 16-28mm F2.8 FF Lens is a super wide angle zoom lens geared toward landscape, interior architect, documentary, environmental style portrait, and night sky/time lapse photography. The unit's optical design features 15 elements in 13 groups, including 3 aspherical elements and 3 glass molded Low-Dispersion (SD) elements to minimize spherical aberrations, distortion, color fringing, and chromatic aberrations. Likewise, a multi-coating has been implemented as well to reduce flare and ghosting.

In addition, the lens uses a nine-blade diaphragm for shallow depth of field effects. A DC motor, Silent Drive module, GMR magnetic AF sensor, and internal focusing design are integrated as well, enabling quiet and fast autofocusing. Finally, the Opera also includes a built-in petal-shaped lens hood to help protect the front lens element and prevent flare.

Here's a full rundown of key specs per Tokina and B&H Photo-Video:
