The Head-Mounted Camera Experiment is Over
As fascinating as it was to follow the
exploits of Wafaa Bilal, the New York University professor who
mounted a camera into the back of his head, one question nagged at
us. Isn't implanting a camera in your head a bit of a health risk?It turns out that yes, it is. Bilal's body has decided to reject the implant. Three posts were mounted on to a titanium base between Bilal's skin and skull, and while two of those posts did fine, the third one was rejected by his body.
Bilal intends to continue with the plan of wearing a constant rear-facing camera, but will be wearing it around his neck instead of embedding it into his head. Seems like the new plan would have saved a lot of trouble in the first place.
