The GXR: Ricoh's New Interchangeable Lens Camera System
Ricoh recently announced yet another enthusiast digital camera, the GXR. While sharing many features with their GR Digital line of prosumer models, the GXR is the first interchangeable lens camera we have ever seen from Ricoh. This is also the most unique camera we've seen them offer. Unlike a dSLR where you simply rotate the lens to attach it to the the camera body, the GXR features a slide-in mount system to attach their "camera units" to
the body. These camera units not only contain the lens, but the imaging sensor, and image processing engine are also integrated into the units, meaning there is no image sensor in the camera body itself. Rioch is also claming the GXR is the world's smallest and
lightest digital camera with the ability to change lenses. The two available camera units for the GXR are the 10-megapixel RICOH
LENS S10 24-72mm F2.5-4.4 VC, and 12-megapixel GR
LENS A12 50mm F2.5 MACRO.
