The Final Kodachrome Processing Facility Processes its Last Roll

Kodachrome.jpgThe name of the site is Steve's Digicams, but a substantial development in the world of film cameras is surely worth mentioning. Kodachrome film, once beloved for its richness of color and beautiful handling of light, is no more.

New rolls of Kodachrome haven't been produced since 2009, and at the end of 2010 the world's one remaining Kodachrome film developer developed its final roll. Dwayne's Photo in Parson's, Kansas will sell off the machine for scrap.

Photographers from across the country and the world traveled to this quiet Kansas town to have their film developed, and to vie to be the last photographer to have the privilege. In the end, owner Dwayne Steinle got the honors.

We're talking about the end of an era, with Kodachrome ending a 75 year run. It may not be long though, before we're talking about the end of film as we know it.
