Tennessee Bans Posting of "Emotionally Distressing" Images

Emotional Distress.jpgThis one isn't going to last long! Bill Haslam, governor of the state of Tennessee, has signed a bill into law that makes it a crime to post images online that "frighten, intimidate, or cause emotional distress."

Obviously, this is incredibly unconstitutional and completely impractical to boot. Trying to limit freedom of speech online is not only a fool's errand, but it's something that won't hold up at all when taken to a higher court.

But the law seems incredibly misguided as well. It seems to be aimed more at the Facebook crowd than anything else, but think back to the most memorable photographs you've ever seen. For that matter, take a look at many of the photos that have won the Pulitzer Prize. They're all designed specifically to cause emotional distress to the viewer.
