Tamron's SP 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di VC USD is the latest from the company, and an impressive lens to be sure.

The SP 70-300mm, also known as model A005, features an all new optical system that's designed to achieve the best resolution possible.  It uses an extra low dispersion (XLD) lens element that's  made from specialized high-grade glass, which makes for sharper contrast and better detail throughout the zoom range.

It's also equipped with Tamron's first auto-focus Ultrasonic Silent Drive (USD).  The exact mechanics of the USD are incredibly complex, but suffice it to say that Tamron's auto-focus drive is designed for a combination of silence and speed.

The model A005 70-300mm lens also incorporates the Vibration Compensatin (VC) mechanism seen in other recent Tamron lenses.   With VC you can go four extra stops lower on your shutter speed without having to worry about blurring.

Tamron's new lens is set to release on August 26th at a retail price of right around $449.  Sony and Canon versions will follow.
