Tamron Announces 60th Anniversary 18-270mm Lens - World's Smallest 15X Zoom

Tamron_B008_large.jpgThe Tamron 18-270MM Di II VC PZD - just announced by the company - is a 15X zoom lens that's smaller and lighter than any other model currently on the market, but it doesn't stop there.

Tamron's new lens, which comes in at just 3.8 inches in length, utilizes Piezo Drive autofocus technology to provide an autofocus that's not only quick, but silent too. It's all based on the standing wave principle, the use of which allows Tamron to create a smaller motor and a smaller lens.

The 18-270MM Di II VC PZD (aka B008) also employs a three-coil vibration compensation system. Three driving coils activate the VC lens group, which is held in place by steel balls, allowing for low friction and smooth movement. The end result is a steadier image for you.

Tamron even introduced a new moving coil method for vibration compensation, reversing the position of existing parts and rethinking VC. It allows for a much more compact and lightweight vibration compensation system.

The 18-270MM Di II VC PZD from Tamron will be released on December 20, 2010 in both Canon and Nikon mounts. A Sony mount is in development. Pricing is to be announced at a later date.
