Sony Unveils Three New Alpha dSLR Models
Sony has just announced three new Alpha dSLR cameras, along with three new Alpha lenses. The α560 replaces the popular α550 from last year with several improvements. However, the most interesting of these announcements has to be the α55 and α33. The first two models in a new series of Alpha cameras from Sony, the α55 and α33 boast their latest ground-breaking innovation, called Translucent Mirror Technology. Replacing the typical reflex mirror of old, Sony has developed an amazing new mirror system that not only reflects the image up to the Full-time Live View EVF, but also allows light to pass through the mirror to the APS-C Exmor HD CMOS imager. While there are various enhancements made possible by this new method, the most notable in our opinion are the increased burst mode speeds and ability to use the phase detection AF system during movie mode. The α55 can capture images at up to 10fps, while the α33 comes in at about 7fps. Both of which are unmatched by any dSLR on the market today in this price range (you have to look at higher "pro-level" models to achieve these speeds). For more information on each new model, see our preview pages by clicking on the thumbnails below.
