Sony Unveils a 16.4 MP CMOS for Cell Phones

The latest sensors from Sony are the
most impressive yet for cell phones.
At the top of the lineup is the new
IMX081PQ, which boasts an effective 16.4-megapixel resolution,
higher than any other phone camera sensor to date. It also boasts
the smallest 1 unit pixel size of just 1.12μm.
The IMX081PQ is a back-illuminated
sensor too, which means there's going to be a much needed reduction
in the noise and increase in sensitivity.
Sony's new IMX105PQ doesn't live up to
the 81PQ in terms of quality. It's got a larger pixel size and a
resolution of only 8.1-megapixels, but it's made for those
ultra-thin phones where size is what truly matters.
