Sony Shows off New XQD Memory Cards

The CompactFlash Association announced a new memory card standard last month and Sony is right on top of it. The company has announced its first line of XQD cards as well as adapters and readers to go along with it.

Sony's new XQD cards offer read/write speeds of up to 256MB/s, allowing for fast shooting and speedy transfer of photos. Speed like that allows you to unload a 16GB memory card onto your computer in just over a minute.

"Advanced shooters want to capture the moment in the highest quality possible, and that often means dealing with massive files like RAW images," says consumer media director Viviano Cantu. "Memory card technology has done a great job of keeping pace, but these new cards give an entirely new meaning to speed and performance."

Sony's new cards will be out in February at $129 for 16GB and $229 for 32GB.
