Sony has announced the latest addition to its E-Mount camera lineup. The new a6400 (model ILCE-6400) is a compact mirrorless camera with a 24.2 MP APS-C sized image sensor, real-time eye autofocus, real-time tracking, and the world's fastest autofocus (according to Sony).

"The α6400 represents another important step in the growth of Sony's overall interchangeable lens camera lineup," said Neal Manowitz, vice president of Imaging Solutions at Sony Electronics. "By bringing so many of our latest and most advanced technologies from full-frame cameras to a brand new APS-C model, we are giving today's creators more options than ever to realize their vision."

Incorporating advanced tech from the company's full-frame lineup, the a6400 offers 425 phase-detection AF points and 425 contrast-detection AF points, along with the new-generation BIONZ X image processing engine, enabling an autofocus (AF) acquisition of just 0.02 seconds. In addition, the camera uses Sony's new Real-time Eye AF technology with artificial intelligence based object recognition to provide enhanced Eye AF performance. Likewise, the device also implements the company's new Real-time Tracking mode with Sony's latest algorithm and AI based object recognition.

Meanwhile, the camera is capable of shooting speeds up to 11 fps with full AF/AE tracking with the mechanical shutter, or up to 8 fps with full AF/AE tracking with silent shooting. Both options can capture up to 116 frames JPEG Standard / 46 frames RAW compressed.

And when it comes to video recording, the device offers support for internal 4K (QFHD: 3840 x 2160) movie capture, along with improved Fast Hybrid AF technology, making it a great fit for content creators and vloggers. An HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) picture profile is featured as well for 4K HDR playback via compatible HLG displays. Finally, the unit can record Full HD at 120 fps at up to 100 Mbps, letting users create 4x or 5x slow-motion videos.
